Hey y'all, sorry for this spam..... I've been working on a blog for Levi's Engineered Jeans, be great if I could get some feedback from you guys.
We did some activity last season based on three characters we'd commissioned, and now the project continues with a blog.
Last season:
http://hypebeast.com/2009/04/lev…We've got 5 different contributors writing for us from across Europe, all of which are finding some interesting shit.
Check it out:

i used to be a product accessory designer for levi's. i left them last year and i am never going back. they as a brand have no idea who their consumers are. outside of levi's japan the brand is all over the place with every license doing what ever pleases them for their market with little to no concern about how the brand relates to itself.
levi's is a headache brand that needs to strengthen its roots all over again... a levi;s blog... meh!!! they need to focus their talents and make the brand strong again if not its just one of the all time worst denim brands out there and its a shame since they were the first 5 pocket riveted jeans...
- where do you work now?
Jordy - i work with different clients in the fashion accessories industry.satogami
- in the last few weeks i have been discussing with a few other people to start our own.satogami

ok after my rant... i went to see the site... im really rather turned off.. im not a web designer and i know my knowledge is limited in terms of actual web design and stuff but... my god... that twisted original site is a straight knock off of http://reformrevolution.com/ and http://typeneu.com/ now as a website with the names "original" in it and not being original but rather straight copying makes me rather annoyed... its not that i even got to see the content as all i see is those other sites that had a decent idea that was original in the endless scrolling site... this one just copies... a rather weak tactic in gaining a visitor base for the blog... wack!!! and its a levi's blog too, so i checked that out and it seems to just be a blog about nothing levi;s related but a blog of every other mundane crap that any other blog also has... why just ride the thunder of the levi's brand why not also claim you are a QBN brand too?? why stop at levis??
maybe im wrong but i still see a complete and stolen rip... so after all that why should i even stay at the site and continue click and reading when all i see is stolen work... which is what a blog really is, just using other peoples hard work for themselves??
meh...

Well this went well.

Fair enough, it was a template that we used – Grid 'a licious it's called which a few others actually have.
The idea of doing a blog is to not just have tonnes of Levi's related stuff on there but to talk about other stuff that the consumer might find interesting.
- then why use the Levi's brand as the identity of the blog when its not about Levi's??satogami

Jeans no speak, no need blog

Didn't do anything for me DaveO to be honest. Visually or contentwise. I just don't see what reason there could be for anyone to visit this blog over just about any other blog in the universe.
Plus, three weeks down the road and you'll be fucked for content that isn't already available somewhere else.

i dont think "Levis don't need a blog"..
it's a useful brand tool if used correctly.
i just think you're used it incorrectly.to me its more about building the brand through it - and the perceptions of the brand.
1 - the layout is gimmicky. like Satogami said - this would have been the time to make an 'original' statement.
2 - the content is weird too - just a lot funny stuff on the internet. It would have been a lot nicer to see a moodboard like website. something like http://jrsrules.blogspot.com/?zx…
- but where all the clothes were Levis.Make me fall in love with the sense of style and give me longing for a life i'll probably only see in pictures. make it aspirational yet achievable.
this just seems to be a pasteboard of guff.
+ you could have done a lot more with the template
- elpaso0
actually i just went back and realised the point was to bring out 'twisted things' from the internet..
you might want to make that more prominent - and as for branding...
---where is it?

Weird strategy from Levi's...

Levi's suck. They lost their grip totally.

@ elpaso – yours is probably the best feedback i got so far.
The blog is not simply for LEVI'S as a generic brand, it's for the Engineered Jeans line - the ones with the twisted side seam etc. If it was simply for LEVI'S the mother brand, i daresay it would be a whole lot different.
Regardless of how negative, I do actually appreciate this feedback.
- the engineered jeans is levi's best design ever, its too bad they took out of production.satogami

as i said before, all their licenses do as they wish, the internet people clearly do not follow any brand identity or direction of the brand and its heritage. the brand is so far away from any place it had in the world as a leader in denim design and related products that it seems ok and just for the licenses to act as they please as the parent company in san fran does little to no control over what their licenses do or how they market the brand.
oi i need a coffee
- If you look at levi.com (european site) there are so many different collections that all have a separate identityDaveO
- yes and that is levi's biggest problem, the lack of a cohesive brand world identity.satogami
- if every division of the brand would design as it sees fit then the brand isnt a brand..satogami
- ..but rather a large mix of randomness.satogami
- in the end i wish levi's luck in strengthening their hold in the market as a leader.satogami
- but this will take a long time as the world divisions are all doing their own thing.satogami
- Our thoughts exactly. We work on three of the different sub brands, it's hard workDaveO

here is a request to your blog. since the brand of the blog is a Fashion Denim Brand that has been around over 100 years, you think that the idea that started it all was the 5 riveted pockets denim jeans it would possibly be cool to have a "FASHION" or related category under your category section. its like you care nothing from where it all came from and honestly i think for a blog that is made to show the consumers of the "fashion" brand twisted things that you would also cater directly to that audience that has made the brand a global giant as it is today. perhaps showcase the "twisted" aspects of fashion or rivets and hardware designs...
i see nothing that relates back to the brand identity.
just saying, you should consider it as that is the heritage of the brand.

nothing twisted and nothing original. just like the jeans. homogenized.

good read on how david butler helped get coke out of the whole localized vs parent branding schism and back on track. maybe worth a read by someone at levi's corporate:

It cracks me up how big companies like Levi's are trying to co-sign graffiti now, but on the under with these offshoot brands.
Go fuck yourself, Levis. I never got a pair of free 501's for rocking some tags. You're dead to me.
