I think shit looks a bit different, but to be honest with all the research you've made, the result isn't that special or whatever...
Some nice aproaches though...

Nice one scarabin dude. I bet it feels good to get something of your and your favoured artists work done.

Nice. I like how the negative space appears to be growing from the right bottom into the ovals receding into the center.

yeah, i see the shuriken thing, and that certainly occurred to me before we ever got started. i'm not a ninja and all my friends know that so i wasn't too worried about it.
what i wanted was something simple, iconic, essential. a way to illustrate both concepts and introduce a new symbol into the world. the finished piece accomplished all these goals for me and i couldn't be happier with it :D

Personally, the very first sketch up there resonates the most with me, with respect to the process and thought stream you describe, and knowing what I do about chaos, vis a vis Carroll and Sherwin. But that's just me.
- yeah, i just felt the first three were too literalscarabin

to me it just looks like a throwing star. it's nice that you put a lot of time and thought into it, but the end product doesn't really reflect this.
this is of course my opinion so you can tell me to just fuck off if you would like :)
