My mom has her own issue. She compulsively buys shit. She shops at KOHLS, and raves about how great of a deal she gets on stuff, which is well and good for clothes, jewelry, etc.
But then she bought a GPS system (which, I did not even ask for because I had an iPhone and she knew this), and this is how it went down.
1. iPhone battery dies, can't find car charger.
2. Meh, get the GPS out I guess.
3. Spend 30 minutes trying to get through the shite plastic packaging.
4. Get the GPS out finally, plug in to lighter/adapter thing.
5. Press Power, screen comes on, GPS dies and never works again.
6. Send GPS back to mom, bitch about not buying cheap electronics.
7. Mom cries.Fuck my life.

you're gonna feel like an ass when you make a scene and then find out they got that stuff on sale at ross and just claimed it was 300 bucks to cover their shame at their inability to provide gifts for their son

"I borrow money from you because you're the only jerkoff 'round here that I can borrow money from without paying back, right?"

My parents always struggled with money but I still love them. They tried their best, but maybe being stubborn was their downfall.

fuck YOUR life?! Your parents had to ask their SON for $5K. How terrible and embarrassing a situation that must have been, regardless of if it was from their negligent budgeting.

They sound like sweet and thoughtful people who love their child, haven't the means (lots a people in that situation these days) and wanted to make a gesture in appreciation. Puttin them on blast aint cool...

Just adjust their interest rate on the loan. That will teach them.

vitamins,
You're parents must have horrible credit if they can't get a loan from a bank for 5k. Plus, the fact that they own property pretty much guarantees they should be able to get a loan.
This is not a money issue. It's a family dynamics issue. Trust me, I know all families have there problems, and it's nothing to be ashamed of. There has to be much more going on than we know, and I'm sure it's private.
You and/or your parents need therapy.
I'm really not trying to be a dick. Just trying to be helpful. Best of luck.

Use the oversized clothes to make a tent when you lose your house. You'll thank them later.
