You should choose a place where its nice but cheap and close to everything.

my wife had a few days at the Chelsea Hotel lately, and loved it - authentic and unchainy.
Im more of a chain-with-stars person.
Anywhere decent is going to be 280-350, but fuck it.

I would say 3, too. The more south in that outlne the better.
Socially the best area of the bunch - close to the West Village, Meat packing and Soho.

Area below 5 and right 3 and above 4 would central to everything.

North 4 is good, south 4 would suck - Financial is pretty lacking...

Had a good time staying at Hotel on Rivington several years ago. Guess that would be 4.

Jane hotel has been having some .. well dead people smell issues in last week or so.
Cooper Hotel / Mercer / Thompson on LES & Soho / Bowery Hotel / Union Sq W hotel.
