though i loved it, the only real question I have is why does it have nothing to do with the cartoon? BTW I hate the cartoon.

Not really worth to watch in 3D.
The Alice in Wonderland trailer had more in-your-face special effects than Avatar (more particles flying around in front of you). But I will watch it again for sure.

I actually prefer the subtlety of the 3D in Avatar. the Alice in Wonderland trailer looked amazing, but the cheap 3D for the sake of 3D ooh and ah effects gets tiresome fast

Honestly, besides the CGI, the movie was nothing new. Same story, different planet... it was perfectly predictable. They had a real opportunity in the beginning of the movie to tell a truly original story... instead it just stuck straight to typical Hollywood themes 100% of the way.
But, It was very entertaining... I actually saw it twice, because the first time I saw it without the 3d. Unfortunately the 3d didn't add much... it actually made the film more difficult to watch, and you couldn't really see all the stunning details of the CG. I was hoping for a better 'experience.' It's also odd that they used such a revolutionary method of creating stereoscopic images with several cameras, and yet only achieved a similar result as a red/blue anaglyph... there was a point in the movie where they made the photographs on the wall work in 3d, and that was just ridiculous... I expected some missiles to fly at you or something... tree to fall on your face...they wasted so many opportunities...

I don't get why the main character's (military guy - quadriplegic) avatar had 5 fingers where as all those indigenous blue skins had 4 fingers.
- For the 5 Finger discount of course.harlequino

1. Dolby 3D
2. RealD
3. IMAX 3D

Saw it in 3D. It was quite beautiful.
That said - it's one of the dumbest movies I've ever seen. Really nothing you haven't seen before and the environmentalism / "who's the real terrorist" overtones are forced and awkward. It was a low budget "Dances With Wolves" with a $300 million budget.
I'd like to watch it again in 3D with the sound off...

I think the version I saw was RealD.
Didn't seem all that 3D-ish if you ask me.Is Dolby3D a lot better?

the only goo experience i had with 3d was watching "Honey I shrunk the audience" at Disneyland
imax3D just seems like a waste of time. its fucking headache inducing.

I thought IMAX was really cool. And worth it. Didn't have any problems.

As for the story, I thought it worked for this type of film. You're supposed to be transported to a fantastical and seemingly simple world. If they "got" me, then they got me. I enjoyed it.

Saw it at an imax yesterday, entertaining movie but the story oh so predictable! :(
Agreed that they wasted many good opportunities to utilise the 3D tech. There was definitely a lot of subtle effects but its supposed to be a "wow" experience.

Saw it yesterday in 3D. Great effects, awesome created world. But it was to short. Some happenings were just to short.. Bummer.
But still great movie!
