Tanning bed = cancer.

It's this age in life - I'm 32 - when I'm already in the "damn I regret that" mode about certain things, as well as "should I cut X out of my life now to prevent problems later?" I mean the tanning bed? What the hell was I thinking? I mean, a tan looks good, but who cares? I'd rather just get a decent one on a vacation while wearing sunscreen than go through all the harm.
I'm not a heavy drinker or anything, but I occasionally have the thought to just give up alcohol. I've never smoked cigarettes, but smoked cigars and specifically Black & Mild pipe tobacco cigars in high school and college.
Back to the tanning - if any of you have a ton of moles and you're late 20s / early 30s, get them looked at by a dermatologist. Never done that myself but getting them looked at from head to toe is a great way to be proactive towards potential skin cancer later in life.

i worked at a tanning salon that my friends mom owned way back when. in moderation it's ok i guess. but there were people who would come in daily and they looked like bacon. not delicious bacon either, dried, crusty nasty bacon. tan once a week for 15 min and you should be fine. that will definitely not turn you gay. 20 minutes or more and you're in gay territory. it's something to do with the bulbs they use in the tanning beds. they pump out uvb, uva and uvgay rays. too many of those and the next thing you know you're watching the jersey boys musical crying at its' beauty.

during winter you have to take supplements.

my parents had a small desktop tanning bulb in the 80's. I thought it would be a good idea to use it a few days before the first day of my sophomore year in high school. I used it for 5 minutes and didn't see any results, another 10 nothing, after 15 minutes I felt like the guy in the end of Raider of the Lost Arch and I looked like an umpalumpa on fist day of class.

I normally sleep in the sunbed. In my proffession I have to be always on the run, and therefore it is very important for me to be able to rest whenever I have the chance. Just a tip for you right there
Btw, both too much sun and too little is not healthy in general. The most common mistake is to overdo it the first time. I have a friend who sunbedded for 40 mins, and he swore to never do it again. To each his own

I live in San Diego, CA and I still take vitamin D. It keeps me healthier and in a better mood, without the cancer.
I've been to a tanning bed maybe 10 times in my life, but the last time I felt the need to be bronzed (bc I was in a wedding in Costa Rica with a bunch of brown South Americans) I opted for the spray on tan I went to a spray on tanning place. There are downsides to spray on tan, but as far as we know so far they don't include cancer
@ mrghost: I say embrace your paleness (like I have) and take vitamin D if you're worried about not getting sun. Plus if you have tattoos they will stay brighter and the line quality sharper for much longer!

whatever, everything in moderation, i say.
you can be healthy, do everything right, and then one day - bam hit by a truck with a tanning bed delivery.

Use a sun bed and it'll age you prematurely.
- CygnusZero40
Ive done it before, had my sisters wedding which of course I wanted to look good for, but I didnt have time to spend hours at the beach.
Going tanning doesnt make you gay. Looking like those staten island guidos is different, regular dudes go tanning too you know, dont worry about it. Its okay to want to look good, and it saves a ton of time, just dont overdue it or you will look ridiculous.

JazX is going to be so pissed...
The Obama administration is turning up the heat on tanning salons across the country with the passage of its new health care bill.To help fund the $940 billion health care overhaul, a 10% tax on individuals receiving indoor tanning services was tacked on, and the initiative is expected to generate $2.7 billion over ten years.
- bulletfactory0
i don't know why anyone would even consider it.

Get some information on it first, I'm comfortable with my pasty-white complexion for it not to be a problem for me. It's the rolls of fat, on the other hand, that keep me from being publicly topless.

I like getting a tan in the summer - but I like getting it from the sun. Is the sun better than a tanning machine?
