The black book etc prices are often a little high, but you can get a rough idea of what you should be paying based on features and mileage. They usually want you to pay a subscription to access the info, but there is a workaround.
If you go to the automaker sites like Ford and GM Canada sites and 'build and price' a vehicle, at the payment estimation portion they'll have a link for the trade in value and you can then use the BB free to enter any vehicle you like.
- Thanks! Good tip.noneck
- That's why you check the Blue Book prices. WTF is a black book anyway?monospaced

man, you don't need to justify your purchase here. anyone is free to speak their mind on the topic, but if you want a mountain-dew yellow hummer with spinners and rooftop baby deck chairs, it's all you, bro. just take some pics of you cruisin' through the local mc donalds so we can live vicariously though you.

get whatever you want ffs. we're looking at a mid-size suv as well. chicago winters have been brutal lately and if you think you can fit a stroller, diaper bag, groceries and a bag of kid emergency gear in a mid-size or small car ur crazy. we've been test driving a bunch of cars and with a carseat, the drivers seat has to be moved way the heck up to fit in the backseat. so far the highlander hybrid and the escape hybrid have topped our lists. most of the others we've looked at are also all premium gas suvs and cars. no thanks.
- My wife has an Escape. The front seat still needs to be pushed up for the baby seat.ETM
- But a surprisingly great little vehicle.ETM
- yeah we noticed that too but it wasn't as bad as some of the others. thanks for the insight!kona
- Sync is awesome. Pay the $400.ETM
- My wife has an Edge AWD. Handles Michigan weather just fine. tons of room... not a 100 lb. dog thoughMimio
- Kona you still rolling in that bling-mobile?????mg33

i know you said used but the new kia sorento is SICK. and it gets fairly decent gas mileage (regular gasoline).
i'm also a big fan of the 2007-2009 rav-4s.
- My aunt has a Sorento but I never drove it. Worked for two adults + two caged dogs + fencing equipment.ismith
- agree on the rav4s - had one as a rental two years ago and it was aces in the utah gravel.bigtrickagain

I'm trying to find people who have had their SUVs advertised for 4+ weeks without selling, and grinding on them to lower their price out of desperation to sell it finally.
The Black Book trick is a good one, so I can say, "Look, your truck has a black book value of $12K, but you're asking $14 for it, and it's not even perfect. You've had it listed for 6 weeks without selling. I'll give you $10K today and everyone's a winner."
- Never go in at your ceiling. At least reserve $500 to add for your 'final offer'.ETM
- What is this black book? I thought it was the blue book.monospaced
- Some of us live outside the US.

when he's not looking key the door and be like "yo man this door is keyed, that's like at least 500 off the asking price right there".
wait...

cash talks. if you walk up to someone who's asking 25k for their ride and you pull out 20k wad of bills, they'll think really hard before turning you away.
i sold a motorcycle like this once. the dude pulled out a fat roll and was like "here", and i was like "sweet", and he was like "dude", and i was like "sweet!", and he was like "dude!".

- toyota! great. it will get there, really fast. we can promise you that. lol.akrokdesign

- I would wait on buying a Toyota. There have been reports of that acceleration issue even after the fix.ETM
- vomit.iCanHasQBN
- Not everyone wants to drive your '86 Ford Escort.ETM
- i've seen black on black versions of that that look really cool. they aren't good on gas though.kona
- im not saying drive an 86 Escort. You could buy a brand new, efficient, cleaner car instead of this gluttonous shit.iCanHasQBN
- if you feel the need to own one of these, i think you might have self-esteem issues.iCanHasQBN
- Have you actually seen one of these? Not really that big.ETM
- think they will stop making them. so that might lower the price. still shitty mpgs though.akrokdesign
- ETM, if you think this vehicle "isnt big", then you have lost perspective. This is huge. Unnecessarily HUGE.iCanHasQBN
- all this crap does is feed the ego of the "macho man". the car market has realized there is a market for the insecure man.iCanHasQBN
- ...and you have bought into it.iCanHasQBN
- It's not much bigger than a compact SUV. Give me a break.ETM
- Here's some FACTS:
FJ is only 1.6 inches wider than the a RAV4 and 2 inches longer. What a MONSTER!ETM
