one of the best holidays myself and the g/f had was a few years ago was near that region.

we got the train from London to Narbonne just north of Perpignan and spent a couple of weeks camping and walking along the canal du midi. This is a canal that cuts across the entire south of france. We went through places like Carcassonne etc.

one of the best things was to spend most of the day walking past vineyards and tiny little villages to then call in and buy some of the wine from the vineyard and then camp out eating the food from the little village you walked past (lots of fresh breads and cheeses of course).

we then cut back and went via Perpignan into the Pyrenees. We got the "le petit train jaune" over the pyrenees (stopping to camp in some villages along the way)

Our last stop in france was at the border in a little village right on the spain/france border called Bourge-Madame.

from here we got a train right into barcelona that was really cheap.

we then hooked up with about 20 friends from home and rented a few apartments and went to the Primavera festival.

so if you have the family things like renting boats on the canal du midi and the petit train jaune would be good things to do.

Final bump. Heading out on Tuesday for a month.
Any last ideas for Northern Spain and the Languedoc region? We've got tons of things we're gonna do, but looking for some last hidden gems.
