- "Martyrs" was amazing, loved everything from that era of French extreme horror movies.elahon

Missed it at the time - short run and the 'rona - but caught a sold out showing last night. Could have been 1/2 hr shorter but enjoyed it all the same. Bradley Cooper's Jon Peters is laugh, and young Hoffman shows the apple didn't fall very far from the tree.

this was great (from the scanner darkly dudes)
- only hear good things... linklater is a lovely dude.neverscared
- I did not enjoy this movie. Not what I was expecting from the trailerletterhead
- I absolutely loved it, was so nostalgic, reminded me of my childhood even though mine took place 15 years later...and not in Texas. My son loved it too_niko
- Same nikoYakuZoku
- I love the look of it but -1 for Jack Black being involved.CyBrainX

Based on a play apparently, what it achieves with a handful of characters and locations is brilliant. A very good, genuine slow-burner.

- I really can't stand these kinds of nonsense made up - no element of reflecting the realities of physics or biology - movies.shapesalad
- And then you see it in a cinema and people are whooping and laughing and you're thinking "I'm surrounded by idiots."shapesalad
- "nonsense made up" I think you have to just go with it as most films are made up nonsense. How many tornados do you see filled with Sharks?Ianbolton
- lol, the divorce has snapped shape's head. he's a miserable 'women are agents of chaos' / return us to tradition basketcase now.face_melter
- thoughts and prayers ShapeIanbolton
- thanks.shapesalad
- Agreed, he's generally more misanthropic nowadays, but that's only a change of degree; he used to be as well, just less so.BuddhaHat
- wow.... this movie is so much... i can't believe they cram all that in there. really enjoyed it.pango
- Also never thought I'd say this. For a movie with butt plug, hot dog fingers, raccoon, tax and so much nihilism, it's got lot of hearts.pango

“The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it.”
As much as this became a corny Halloween costume type of character, this script is hilarious.
- I've had this committed to memory for two decades. This was the most inspired Madlib burst of insanity I've ever heard.CyBrainX
- And yes, I was Dr. Evil for Halloween one year.CyBrainX
- I still remember seeing this in a packed cinema. Laughing with hundreds of other people. Good times.toemaas
- lol. ya, that was a brilliant monologueGnash
- Mike Myers is a genius. Writes movies that become super hits, franchised with catch phrases, while also it’s actually good writing.nb
- It reads like Nabokov.garbage
- I read it in his voiceYakuZoku
- Dr Evils voice is based on Lorne Michaels hahahaha what a burnnb
- A shorn scrotum is breathtaking!jagara

anyone have letterboxd? much easier to find what people are watching & enjoying it seems.
https://letterboxd.com/prodigals…
anyway, the northman was fucking rad all around. X was a fun little flick but last night in soho was superior in intensity while being sort of the same vibe. dual was cool but might agitate people. you won't be alone was completely mis-marketed and actually was a weirdly lovely freaky flick. the outfit is still probably the best complete kind of classic film of the year but fuck i love the batman.
- Letterboxd is solid for tracking my watched stuffs, but it's really the user reviews that are gems. so funny some of these movie watchers.Vandal7
- I just wish IMDB weren't tied into a contract with Amazon and told me whenever something on my Watchlist was available on my platforms. Netflix, Disney+, Sky.Hayzilla

Just caught The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, had a great time and both Pedro and Nic were fun to watch:

- love cage but this was not good. what happens when "writing is essential" gets to a writers head and they think themselves to be essential. also awful directingcolin_s
