California to Ban the Sale of New Gasoline Cars
"The decision, to take effect by 2035, will very likely speed a wider transition to electric vehicles because many other states follow California’s standards."
- Argh! We need to start measuring the environmental impact end to endnb
- They want to chase everybody out! lolMondoMorphic

Stewart Brand was right!!!

China is using two massive drones to seed rainclouds in Sichuan province to try to end a devastating drought that has choked power output and disrupted supply chains of global giants like Apple Inc. and Tesla Inc.
...
Seeding works by dropping an ice-forming agent like silver iodide into a cloud that already contains ample moisture. Rain droplets gather around the agent, gaining weight until they begin to fall.
...
...Heavy rain hit parts of the province Thursday night, forcing officials to relocate about 30,000 people living in danger zones, state-owned CCTV reported.
- To be fair, the article doesn’t say that the seeing caused the rain disasternb
- The point is that in one part of the province there is a deadly drought and in another part there is a deadly flood !!!!nb
- article doesn't say a word about the cons of using this technology like that it's impossible to calculate where the rain is going to land.sted
- Yeah it’s not an article about the tech, it’s just like daily report: this thing happened. Not uncommonnb

"Dramatic photos capture how the world's rivers, lakes and canals are turning to dust."
"In Europe, rivers that have been critical to commerce for centuries are now shriveled, threatening the global movement of fuel, food and other commodities"

"Californians were told Wednesday not to charge their electric vehicles, just days after the state said it would stop selling gas-powered cars, as the aging electricity grid struggles with a fearsome heatwave"
- The future is not EV cars, the future is less cars. Sure, in the US that is very hard to acomplish, but climate change won't care anywaygrafician
- Does anyone think that they won't charge their cars? The same people were told not to fill their pools, wash their car and water their lawns...but they did.utopian
- Say bye to your owned car. Use public transport. Walk. Ride a bicycle. Do a life near where you work... Etc, etc...OBBTKN
- California has multiple ecosystems, 1000miles across and produces the most food in the country. These blanket laws are so naive and out of touch.BabySnakes
- Actually consuming enourmous quantities of water producing avocados in a fucking desert is also out of touch?
Business as usual won't be possible anymoregrafician - Actually forcing the electric companies to actually update the grid to handle the load and other measures to save the system
What a shit showgrafician - Ya the Agriculture is a whole other deal, the EV issue affects so many layers of logistics and infrastructure that need to adapt in less than 15 years.BabySnakes
- We've been dealing with energy issues for the past 20 years at least.BabySnakes
- here in EU many countries aim for 2030-2035 final deadline for only EVs so yeah...grafician
- will 100% new cars being EVs push u p the demand for home solar panels?nb
- Clearly not. The problem is old systems trying to cope with new demandgrafician

33 million people have been displaced in Pakistan, the scale of destruction is insane.

- 1/3 of the country underwater?grafician
- The areas that have been flooded are where most of the food is grown, so people will be starving. All the sewage in the water will bring diseasePhanLo
- Over 3,125 square miles (8,100 square kilometers) of farms have been flooded.utopian
- Where is your god now!?!? Jk, a good friend of mine recently went back and we made sure to take him out for drinks in case he doesn’t make it out :(_niko

King Charles will not attend climate summit on Truss advice
King Charles will not attend the climate change conference COP27, which is due to be held in Egypt next month, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.
It was responding to a story in the Sunday Times which claimed Prime Minister Liz Truss had "ordered" the King not to attend.

- Chyna burning more coal than the entire energy output of the US...
Any offsetting in the West is nullified by China and Indiagrafician

"#UPDATE China will "actively participate in global governance on climate change," Xi says, promising to "strengthen the clean and efficient use of coal""
- The West starting to use nuclear and in the future, while Chyna going back to coal and steam engines...while inhabiting the same planet.grafician
- We pledge to burn that coal as clean as we cannb
- China is also developing a commercial version of a molten-salt thorium nuclear reactor. They want to start using and selling it by 2030.uan
- They are also into solar, wind and water ...which doesn't seem to work to good atm because of low water levels at their rivers.uan
- Wouldn't trust any nuclear tech coming from Chyna. Ever.
As for renewables, they don't scale fast enough to cover Chyna needs
So it's coal all the waygrafician - yes it's what he told. this doesn't mean they are not investing in a better future solution. also China's engineering capabilities are impressive if not nr1 nowuan
- China, for example, generates around 30% of all global emissions, while the United States is responsible for almost 14%.utopian
- while China is 18.47% and US 4.25% of world population. so it's a factor of 1.6 vs 3.3. but those numbers mean nothing. should look at where the goods go to.uan
- ...while inhabiting the same planet.grafician
