A fresh look at this topic. This thread is to discuss...
- Changes in global temperature
- Different things cause the climate to change
- How much impact humans & greenhouse gases (GHGs) have on our climate
- The effects of a warmer world
- What we can do to minimize the threat of a warmer world
- How design can play a role in any of the above (solutions, awareness, etc.)Realizing this thread has the potential to go downhill very quickly, please try to keep an open mind to different possibilities and remember that this is a scientific issue before anything else.

NASA: A Warming World
http://climate.nasa.gov/warmingw…The past year, 2009, tied as the second warmest year since global instrumental temperature records began 130 years ago. Worldwide, the mean temperature was 0.57°C (1.03°F) warmer than the 1951-1980 base period. And January 2000 to December 2009 came out as the warmest decade on record.

Huge Glacier Breaks Apart in Peru, Triggering Andes Tsunami
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/20…Peru is home to more than 70 percent of the world's tropical ice fields, and scientists predict that within 20 years warmer temperatures will melt them away altogether. This is the first sign of that ominous prediction, showing the devastating effect global warming will have on Peru.

Hottest March and hottest Jan-Feb-March on record

An introduction to global warming impacts: Hell and High Water
http://climateprogress.org/2009/…• Staggeringly high temperature rise, especially over land — some 10°F over much of the United States
• Sea level rise of 3 to 7 feet, rising some 6 to 12 inches (or more) each decade thereafter
• Dust Bowls over the U.S. SW and many other heavily populated regions around the globe
• Massive species loss on land and sea — 50% or more of all life
• Unexpected impacts — the fearsome “unknown unknowns”
• More severe hurricanes — especially in the Gulf

C'mon....
Fucking climate change is nothing human beings will ever have control over. The earth *naturally* goes through cycles of warming up and cooling down. If you think otherwise you're a fucking idiot. This thread sucks./me exits thread never to return
- Yes, the planet goes through natural cycles. Are you positive there aren't other factors?joeth

So-called "global warming" is just a secret plot by wacko tree huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start 21st-century industries, and make our cities safer and more livable. Don't let them get away with it!

I just finished a project that I think will help this planet,
A good friend of my boss invented a machine that can build a house in a single block,
it uses sand as prime matter which means it can be set up pretty much everywhere on this planet and create any form you can render in CAD,
this is a project that will change the way we build housing and I hope once it becomes mainstream the cost for a project will cut down

Let's face facts, we're fucked. The only consolation while major cities around the world sink into a stew of radioactive crap will be being able to turn to you bastards and say, "told you so."

it went from global warming to climate change and you still don't see the word play,
but if we were to point a finger, I know one country that isn't doing anything to curb his consumption- It was "Holes in the ozone" before Global Warming. It'll be global freezing next...seeessess

One of the things that scares me most, are predictions that we're all going to be fighting wars over water shortages in our old age.
- don't worry Lukus, we can all move to the states, they got the biggest gunsgeorgesIII
- (well, obviously robots will be doing the fighting .. but still)********
- that's reassuring, thx georges********
- I think you are confusing this with the plot of Tank Girlheavyt

well..... my college roommate's father was a climatologist who said he really thought it was too late to do anything about it anyway....
... and he added that most of the people who deny it think they'll be dead in 20 years or so anyway....
- exactly ..********
- So should we let things get really bad really fast, or invest in ways to slow the damage?joeth

while we're at it, can you ask your friend's dad if he can predict the weather for one week in the future,
weather is too chaotic to be predicted, we cant even say for sure what temperature there will be in 3 days, I don't think we can predict in what condition will be in 20 years,
