personally I don't think blaming the public, Obama (bizarre) or whoever is particularly helpful.
BP were reckless in the past with other spills. This has been highlighted in previous investigations. http://www.guardian.co.uk/busine…
BP and other oil comaines haven't invested in proper processes and equipment (as shown by that previous video) to deal with their own recklessness because they are focussed on profit.
Oil comanies like BP, Texaco and Shell have been continuously destroying lives and the environment across the world for decades. This current spill is no different.
Remember Ken Saro-Wiwa ?

Just came back from the gulf of mexico. 4 days on the Panama City/Destin Florida side. Looking at the pristine waters I was truly saddened by what has been happening just a few hundred miles away.
- Cool! I was in Destin for Thanksgiving last year! - http://www.flickr.co…mg33

In the grand scheme of things its not a massive oil spill, funny how you all care about the environment when its close to home

Relief for Gulf is 2 months away
the best-case scenario of sealing the leak is two relief wells being drilled diagonally into the gushing well — tricky business that won't be ready until August.
THATS RIGHT AUGUST!

they are not showing the leaking anymore on the live feed...

The video xcarlx posted is probably the most 'insightful' (for lack of better vocabulary) tidbit I've come across through this fiasco.
In case you missed it first time around in this thread, it's...
imo, if there's any single 'thing' to blame here, it's governmental legislation, oversight and regulation, or an apparent lack thereof.
This is a non-partisan statement (I'm a Brit, after all) - both Republicans and Democrats are to blame, from what I've gleaned. Republicans promulgated 'Drill Baby Drill', Obama conceded to the right and in doing so failed to address problems in your Interior Department.
We're not far out of the complicity cycle either - we drive the fucker.

the only thing to blame is consumer greed for hydrocarbon derivative products and god bless™ you all for it

^^^ government is corrupt and puts the priorities of corporations before its citizens. unfortunately that's how the system works.

U.S. Opens Criminal Inquiry Into Gulf Oil Spill
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/0…WASHINGTON — Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. said Tuesday that federal authorities have opened criminal and civil investigations into the Deepwater Horizon explosion and the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

haha, I read a comment a couple days ago on some site that said, "when this is all said and done, it will be Louisiana Oil, with Bobby Jindal as CEO." Doesn't seem like that's too far out there anymore;)

I wonder what BP's U.S. assets are worth. Like the value of all their drilling equipment, land assets, ect , ect.
