"For transportation, the alternatives to petroleum appear especially far off. Onboard energy storage for electric vehicles is difficult; for a given mass, batteries hold less than 1 percent of the energy stored in gasoline. Carrying hydrogen on vehicles requires 10 times the storage volume of gasoline, and the high-pressure tank needed to hold it is very heavy. Although a few maiden flights of airplanes powered by jet fuel derived from biomass have taken place, it is unclear that biofuels can be produced at the quantities and low prices required by airliners ... or by ships for that matter."

some scientist on german radio said that human-made oil spills are only about 5 to 10% of all oil that's escaping into oceans worldwide, so the much bigger part spills anyway by nature at any time. is this ruthless propaganda? is this "information" on us media as well?
- but the other 90-95% of oil is distributed across the entire oceans of the world...not a concentrated spot.BusterBoy
- mikotondria30
The figure is nearer 90% for natural oil that seeps into the ocean from where the oil-bearing rocks crop-out at the ocean floor. However that's all released continuously but over vast areas. The problem is obviously that too much in one spot at one time collects and fucks stuff up. Yes the ocean can cope with and break down billions of barrels of oil, but it will take a while to redistribute a localised concentration and in the meantime things die.
- I meant "95%" of oil is from natural seepage, sorry.mikotondria3

Funny, last week i said, as a joke, nuclear bomb the shit up to stop the leak. Well! today in the news they said Russians told the press BP and USA should... nuclear bomb the shit up! HAHA! Russianz! :D Also, they said they already did it (the russian) in the 70's and it works.
- wouldn't this kind of detonation this deep create a tsunami?elektro
- they use explosions on burning oil rigs in iraq, but how would this help here?BannedKappa

the problem is not caused by "our use of oil"
it is cause by the fact that BP is run by total fuck ups.
