Ouch. Blogger gets a copy of a BP Regional Oil Spill Response Plan for the Gulf of Mexico as of June, 2009 (that's a year ago)
BP has all the plausible deniability in place. Despite the report highlighting EXACTLY where the oil would go, and what the timetable would be it's fucking stunning that BP didn't have booms, etc. on hand for exactly these areas.
On the use of chemical dispersants? according to the Oil Spill Response Plan. "Ecotoxilogical effects: No toxicity studies have been conducted on this product."
Huh. And a year later they're throwing this shot out into the wild when they've known for at least a year that toxicity studies on these things might be a good idea.
See for yourself here:

TBO. re dispersants
There are 10's of thousands of chemicals in use on the market without full eco/human toxilogical testing.
Usually it is only when a chemical has directly shown to cause harm will it be tested properly.
The European Union has been pushing though a massive piece of regulation that basically asks chemical manufacturers to make public their impacts of the shit they make....... it has been so strongly opposed and so complex it make my tiny mind explode --- http://ec.europa.eu/enterprise/s…

in the end though, it's a little dumb getting angry about this shit when almost all of us DROVE to work today.

- can I "ZING" this?CALLES
- yes, you mayscarabin
- And this is why we fail. Yuck it up. I bet you feel superior now.TheBlueOne
- i didn't drive to work today. Or the day before. Many others find other ways to get around. Using this tidbit to mock the outrage is flawed logiclocustsloth

- attacking me on those grounds is flawed logic when i clearly wrote "ALMOST all of us"scarabin

it's not that simple and we shouldn't dilute the blame from those responsible.
if a bakery exploded and killed people and polluted an areas etc I wouldn't blame people that ate bread for the explosion.
ok maybe if bakeries constantly fucked people's shit up, maybe then I would ask people to think about their toast,

wow. exploding bakeries! what a mental picture! thanks dude

^ Am I missing something? Why isn't this being used?
- ghandolf0
^ Well for one thing - we're talking a vast area of sea to spread hay over. Vast.
http://www.ifitwasmyhome.com/#lo…
Second, it's just now the start of growing season over here, so there's not an 'ocean' of hay growing anywhere here yet.
Third, if we throw it all in the sea, the horses won't have anywhere to sleep and nothing to eat I guess.
It's a great idea, if it was contained in some way. With thousands of barrels leaking a day, every day, still... and ocean currents scattering it further every day, I don't think there's enough hay to make a dent in it. If was somehow contained in an area that was manageable, I think that's an excellent idea above. But floating around thousands of miles at sea is another. Works great in a tub!
- TheBlueOne0
Do you have enough hay to cover the equivalent of a large US State in area? And up to a meaningful depth? Is there technology to retrieve oil soaked hay from the same area?
It's a great idea but it simply doesn't scale.
Had the same conversation with some dipshit who said he heard "Rush Limbaugh said they could use corn cobs, but the environmental whackos won't let anyone know about it!"
I asked where there was enough corn cobs to cover, at the moment, 46,055 square miles, and how they could be distributed over the same area of open ocean?
He stared at me blankly like I just shocked him with electricity. This is what pop politics & science does to your brain kids.
