http://youarenotsosmart.com/2011…
law abiding citizens are known to cheer on potential suicide people (ex: someone on a ledge) then walk away. Its why the cordon off these things...

hmmmm
reminds me a lot of the Jessica Lynce situation...
"Initial media reports on Lynch's recovery in Iraq were incorrect. Lynch, along with major media outlets, fault the U.S. government for creating the story as part of the Pentagon's propaganda effort.[2][3][4][5] Jim Wilkinson is credited for fabricating the government narrative.["
and to think this may be why Egypt didnt want us there in the first place... because we fabricate lies...
- yep... like every other government, they prefer the lies they fabricate.Amicus

Whether rape or assault, tragic in any case.
But let me put my tinfoil hat on ...and also blame "the media" for making me think this way, while I am at it.
Were it reported as rape could she herself go back to reporting on tv?
Were it sexual assualt, without a set of peepees going into her hooha, I don't see why she couldn't.
In fact, she'd probably come out stronger from it: I can even smell a book deal promoted by Oprah when she decides to put the reporter gloves on the shelf.

Rape is not a characteristic attributed to certain ethnic groups, religious groups, or race. It is an evil human characteristic that is developed and has no justification.
The article is more sensationalism than anything else. It's meant to stir up emotions and it also casts a poor light on the people of egypt and islam in general. It makes it seems that egyptians and arabs are the only people who rape, when in reality, the shit goes on everywhere and, yes, even americans do it. I find it amusing that there's a righteous indignation overtone to the article.
Also, this reporter assumed the risks by going overseas and reporting amongst a massive angry mob.
- Agreed. But go to egypt, travel with a girl. It's like they all have blue balls or something...inteliboy

I don't think it's a great time for Americans to start abusing Egyptians because some blond yank got her arse touched.
Americans have some of the worst human rights records in combat situations, thinking Abu Grab, Guantanamo recently. Some of the sexual assaults that have gone on in there by freed inmates are horrendous.

Shocking thing that happened. I find it almost as vile that a number of news outlets (NY Post and some here is Oz) have either retouched images or deliberately displayed provocative images of her as if to insinuate something...either she had it coming or some other ridiculous reason. If you do a google image search on her, you can find her in battle fatigues, in corporate shots etc etc but instead some have chosen to show the image of her with a plunging neckline. Sickening.
This is in now way excusing those responsible for the act...sickening also.

Was lucky to spend a month in Egypt, not long, but still managed to soak in a bit and loved the place. Though no doubt, it was full of the most vulgar men I've ever come across, and unfortunately this seemed to be a majority. So no surprise this happened, and spot on that it was stupid to send her into a mass crowd of hysterical men.

"She returned to Egypt, and was repeatedly raped and beaten where there was a mob of 200 people"
So basically that didn't happen. I mean did it say anywhere "repeatedly raped?"
- You made it sound like she raped 200 timesabettertomorrow
