Don't take it.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU'RE WORTH.

Typical bullshit. They're trying to see how low you'll go. Be firm. The diminished wages are not worth the headache you'll have from this small mom+pop agency. Especially when you're putting in 40+ hours a week for peanuts.
Fuck that. That makes me sick.
Feel free to let us know who this agency is by name so that we may save ourselves some headache down the line.
- Also, don't buy into the illusion of 'full creative control' - you'll never have it unless you own your own studio.d_rek

Man I made 25k for part time at my first internship in 1998. Don't settle.
- akrok0
if you freelance for them, you won't get paid every 2 week.
they might even pay you. hey, man we run out of funds or the client haven't send the check yet. there's always bad excuses.

part time 20hrs a week, final offer.

"the guy was a real nice stand up guy and came across really sincere"
That shouldn't matter at all.

How about 25K, and i start working when you find the other 25K
- shellie0
Careful with this one. Freelance means you're an "unsecured creditor" and the government can do nothing for you, unemployment or not, if they go belly up you wont have a leg to stand on. They'd be more inclined to pay the government any back taxes over you. you'd have to get in line w/ the rest of the unsecured creditors. That's a HUGE loophole a lot of people don't think about.
That being said, I haven't been a salary employee for some time and wouldn't consider being one. But, you have to choose your clients carefully and they're throwing up some big red flags.

It never happens like they promise. Take a fair wage upfront, which could still be lower than what you would prefer, or keep looking. If they're that bad off, what would you do if they closed their doors and stiffed you on payment before you ever got paid your discounted salary? I bet the partners will get paid first and employees second in the final death throws of a boutique. Trust me -- it's happened before to so many people. The company I used to work for closed their doors and it took over a year to get 30% of what they owed me with this super clever form of bankruptcy. It wasn't worth the 3 extra months of work I did for them on good faith (with lots of late and partial payments along the way even for salary employees).
It would be even worse if they asked you to be a contract to hire employee for the first month or so. That's even worse.
Beware, or do work knowing you made the choice to take a huge gamble.

"...with one leaving the one I would be replacing ..."
Got offered a job paying more thank $25k I would think.

Forget it. move on. You can't live a normal life on that kind of wage.
- zenmasterfoo0
As a rule never believe management when they say you'll be compensated better later. They may be sincere, but reality has a way of making them a liar.
- akrok0
holly crap, that's low. hell no.
but yeah, if you need money. take it and look for an other gig.
