If you;re really experienced and got a good portfolio, 25k is insulting so let them know that and walk away.
PS - If they've been hit hard like that, it's not because of the economy - its most likely that they are crap in one way or the other.
Getting underpaid AND get tarnished with the same brush?! Not a good move.- can see your point.
good agencies still get work even in recessions.Hombre_Lobo
- can see your point.

it's also 25K less taxes.
What's the takeaway going to be?
- hellojeehae0
dude... no

surely you need some incentive to work....so perhaps agree on a starting wage which increases based on work + performance. If you're pulling in work/creating a huge part of the company's work then they should pay you for it. Could look at becoming a shareholder or get salary + commission on jobs...just a thought
:]- < this. if they're that bad off, they should give you a piece for the investment, minimum.shellie

Exactly. 25k after taxes is going to be about 17k. That comes out to about $1400 a month. But...if you need the money...
- epill0
to take a greater than half your previous salary as a pay cut just doesnt cut it economy or not.. if you were a single guy, no wife, no kids, and you lived somewhere that you can get by on the after taxes salary of what 25K may be then its still, NO!!
didnt you just tell us that you have a wife and kid? you would break down mentally by mid year trying to figure out your financials on a daily that which you do not have today.. with life cost going up, your salary should match that..
especially since you provide for others outside of you. look for a better gig that respects you. not one that would take advantage of your worth.
best of luck on that.
- exactlly , plus I get to see my son more then ever now cant out a price on thatBattleAxe

howd you get on? whats the conclusion youve come to?
- doesnotexist0
give him half the time for that if you're desperate.
otherwise, this is a good time to value yourself and say no.
- akrok0
holly crap, that's low. hell no.
but yeah, if you need money. take it and look for an other gig.

As a rule never believe management when they say you'll be compensated better later. They may be sincere, but reality has a way of making them a liar.
- canuck0
Forget it. move on. You can't live a normal life on that kind of wage.

"...with one leaving the one I would be replacing ..."

It never happens like they promise. Take a fair wage upfront, which could still be lower than what you would prefer, or keep looking. If they're that bad off, what would you do if they closed their doors and stiffed you on payment before you ever got paid your discounted salary? I bet the partners will get paid first and employees second in the final death throws of a boutique. Trust me -- it's happened before to so many people. The company I used to work for closed their doors and it took over a year to get 30% of what they owed me with this super clever form of bankruptcy. It wasn't worth the 3 extra months of work I did for them on good faith (with lots of late and partial payments along the way even for salary employees).
It would be even worse if they asked you to be a contract to hire employee for the first month or so. That's even worse.
Beware, or do work knowing you made the choice to take a huge gamble.
