too bad, i was looking forward to Michigan crushing them this year.

They'll still play, I imagine. I don't think Ohio State will shut down football. But they may only limp along for a few years.
- _niko0
Yeah but Jim Tressel had a 9-1 record against Michigan, it's a shame that they won't get a chance to reverse it a little.
damn.

Well, a bunch of those games were apparently with illegal players. Players he knew should have been suspended. So, you know, everything he touched there is utterly tainted. The big Sports Illustrated article, which caused Ohio State to ask him to resign, lays out violations going back to 2002 at Ohio State, and for years before that at his previous job.
So, Ohio State is going to have to do some shoveling to bury this scandal.

ohio = tossers.

They should strike all records and achievements during his reign, much like what Michigan had to do with the fab 5

Whoa! Those cost more than a college quarterback is supposed to make.
- good, because a college quarterback should, and never will, make anything...they're modern day slavesmonospaced
- Getting a $100,000 college education in exchange is hardly slavery.boobs

My opinion on all of this shit is that it's not fair to these players that they can't make any profit off their name. I don't think they should be paid by the NCAA or their colleges to play, but I find awfully fucking ironic that ESPN can drop Cam Newtown's name all season long in every single NCAA football commercial and profit off his name, but Cam Newton can't even get a fucking peanut without some stodgy, rich ass white dude getting a hard on about it. The situation is fucked, IMO.
If it were up to me, I would institute a rule that allowed for sponsorships and endorsements, but no salary from the schools/conferences.

People that get pissed off about the rules don't care about an education, that's worthless to them. They want money, money, money for the players. But the thing is, they are living the life as a star college athlete, what's that worth? They have it better then EVERYBODY* in school. Call it a right of passage to make it in the next level. They make the money when they move on, which in reality is only like 2-3 years for most of them. PLUS, if it was that big of a deal for these athletes, you'd hear about it from those effected. Instead it's people, not effected, saying it's not fair. IMO if you allowed these kids to make money, it would get so ridiculous, these sponsors would demand they only go to certain schools, etc. It becomes only about money at that point, which is the beauty of college sports, its players with a generally level playing field.

It cost Reggie Bush a Heisman.

Sorry, but I guess the way I look at it is a little different, joyride. College is where most careers are ended. Not because of money or lack of skill, but because of injury. These guys have a limited amount of time to cash in on their talents, unless they end up being superhuman like a Br ett Favre. IMO, they should be able to capitalize on their skills in any way they wish. Again, I don't think schools should be paying them to play, but in my mind, I don't see anything wrong at all with Wheaties giving them an endorsement/sponsorship check.
- hahaha, but the school and division DOES see a problem with the endorsementmonospaced

I am with you dM. If they are making money for the schools and the sponsors of the schools, which they clearly are, then they should be able to pocket some money along the way too.
With pro athletes making such absurd amounts, why not let some of those that don't make it all the way profit a little for their efforts?
Seems like it would eliminate a ton of scandals, too. Who can blame a kid coming from a trailer park or inner city for taking the 'free car' or some rent money for his folks?
Look at Newton, his boot from UF (go Gators!), the alleged scandal, etc., etc. You can't tell me things work the way they are.
- so, college sports are like spec work?monospaced
- Not really, mono.dMullins
