How much time do you need? I find myself needing about two days to fully explore the avenues of options when approaching a new design.

^ not questions guy. just curious.
- Thats about right. I would say 3 days with a regular work load.VikingKingEleven

Lately... a couple of hours of poopin' out ideas in rough format is enough to get me going.

To wit...
I used to spend a couple of days doing extensive mind mapping, insanely long word lists... all in the name of 'process'. And while i'm not devaluing this process, because it certainly has it's merits, I came to many realizations about my own working process.
I found that many times I would circle back to initial ideas and concepts instead of the far-off tangents I would end up at doing the above. I've since learned to trust my instinct and intuition more when doing concept and idea generation and rely less on the tedium of forced process-driven methodologies.

1.5 days after studying and researching.

Yea i've found that I usually hit on an idea I like fairly quickly. 2 days=2 working days which is actually more like 6 hours of uninterrupted design time.

I read idea explosion.

depends on how conceptually new the idea is and how familiar i currently am with the product and its constraints.

My process of exploring is more like a revelation/epiphany... In 5 mins I can see all option and posibilities of an idea...
The problem is that those 5 mins can come any time from the original conversation with a client to a week's time trying to come up with some 'ideas'
