Pointless characters, disjointed, some bad scenes... but it had amazing visuals and amazing ideas. Really felt at times like yeah, this is what it'd be like to face a superior alien race. SPOILER: When that engineer wakes up and smashes apart the humans, he has this foreign alien look on his face, really unsettling... equivalent of a dog trying to understand a human as it's kicked to death.
Anyway... why did they edit out that moment where rooney grasps her hands infront of the mirror (was in the trailer)? Such an iconic character & visual moment and it's not even in the film. Bizarre.
Overall they needed to tighten the script and strip back some of the plot threads. Too many mutant beast things happening as well. Worms, zombies, viruses, snakes, tenticle creatures, god-aliens... And yeah, that very last shot / sequence pissed me off, incredibly lame - yet another alien spin-off hybrid monster, leave that too the hack-directors ridley!

Sorry yeah that sounds negative... It's actually a mind blowing film in certain moments. I keep thinking about it. A sign of great sci-fi.

Go see it, interesting concepts, the acting is great, visuals are stunning.
***SPOILER***
Right i have an issue with the continuity of the films.
If at the end the engineer/space jockey gets out of that big cockpit thing and goes after the doctor on the lifeboat, only to be pwned and impregnated, why is it in alien, they see his corpse sitting in the seat?- related spoiler image

^ Obviously its not the same engineer (and ship).
Prometheus is not a direct prequel...but happens in the same universe...before the alien incident.
- not buying itStugoo
- Stugoo the film has a lot of hole and this isnt one of them /rolleyesahli
- sorry, but you set up a prequel like that only to say its not the same ship, poor continuityStugoo
- You are stupid if you think that. Damon Lindelof even said it himself >inv

One thing that bothers me though ( havent seen it yet ) judging from the trailer, is how come in the same univers much before the alien this ship has super high tech interface.
Is this mentioned in the movie? Is it because that the nostromo ship was an old rusty workship that couldnt afford upgrades?
- Can't exactly maintain visual continuity with a late 70s filmukit2
- Lol. Why didn't they have blowback perms as well?biusness
- 1979, back when you could smoke on spaceshipsStugoo
- Still though Ridley started it, why not just make it after the alienattentionspan
- There will always be holes like this in sci-fi. If you cannot accept that you will not enjoy it..inv
- The excuse the writer told in a media event was that the Nostromo was a mining ship therefore not fancyernexbcn
- sorry mate, but this has to be the dumbest comment I've read in this thread,
Good job SIR!!GeorgesII - No diff than the Star Trek reboot or even the 'Enterprise' series.ETM

I stand corrected Alien was on LV-426, prometheus landed on LV-223.
- Exactly!inv
- haven't seen the movie yet (premieres august here) but the map they find is of a cluster of planets?ernexbcn
- or stars? if it's planets then they could have landed in anotherernexbcn
- << why read up so much before you see it? Totally ruins the experiencebiusness
- I got this from the fucking trailersernexbcn
- stugoo is a slow one...inteliboy
- But you're on here, probably checking out IMDB and forums too. No point, totally destroys the spectaclebiusness

The second film will be called LV-426 and it will be equally shite.

attentionspan,
YES!!!! The same argument I make about the total shit storm that was Star Wars episodes 1 - 3. Horrible visual continuity. I will argue the idiocy of those movies till the day I die.
- randommail0
OK, so enough with the film critique.
How MUCH of Charlize Theron exactly do we get to see?
- GeorgesII0
did anyone read the comics?
I think there will be a lot lifted from them
- ernexbcn0
One of the writers (the one from Lost) said that Nostromo was a mining ship, therefore not as fancy as Prometheus, fits as an excuse I for one don't care if this ship is fancier than the one from a movie from 30 years ago...
- clearThoughts0
There is a resemblance to Lost in the whole "we are taking about deep shit here...." but when it gets to the point of delivering some answers... the smoky cloud appears

Haven't seen it yet, but I get a sense from what I hear, final editing may be as much to blame as script problems.
So I guess we wait for the Director's cut to be released. Ridley loves those. But not the first version. We have to wait a little after for the "Final Cut", ala Blade Runner.
