Him not making all this religious stuff blatantly obvious is on purpose. Like a song with lyrics that dont tell the entire story. They give just enough info for you to take it and run. I think thats what he was going for here. Lay down the basic ideas then dig deeper if you want.
- Yeah, like... being a lazy cunt and throwing a few half baked 'ideas' out, hoping we'll make a decent story out of it, sort of thing.Horp
- If you're negative and need everything fed to you, you can look at it that way.CygnusZero4
- I enjoy entertainment that makes you dig a little. It's more interesting to me.CygnusZero4
- Me too. I like to dig into complex issues though, not this sloppy bowl of miscellaneous yolks.Horp
- It made the DaVinci Code feel like a deeply puzzling conundrum with profound implications.Horp
- < Maybe it was for you. If so, no offence.Horp
- My guess is Ridley was pushing these ideas at the forefront, then the writers and studio pushed them back and backbiusness

These movies are very similar to Star Wars, although SW sort of just reflects the stories in the bible while Alien actually tried to further explain them and has its own reasons for why Jesus existed, how humans came to be, etc..
It's not meant to be the most intelligent thing ever, and much of this isnt even directly explained in the movie. If you want to know all its about you have to do some digging. Some love that about it, some hate it. Just opinions.
I thought the movie was very good. Not a masterpiece of course, but it looked cool, I found it to be interesting and what was presented in the story was good enough for me. I knew there was deeper shit going on so I left the theater feeling like it was very good and would want to see it again.
- The movie was rife with Christian symbolism. How many times does Shaw's crucifix necklace come into view?biusness

David: This unstoppable 9-ft monster was trying to destroy Earth when his plans were interrupted, now he's sleeping.Humans: Let's wake him up!

The screenplay was... surprisingly campy. But damn was it really well done. I really liked this flick. And I really liked the way it tied into the Alien mythos. Great movie for sci-fi aficionados.

I was wondering something, how did a bunch of crude drawings in caves with a tall being pointing to some circles point them to that specific moon they went to?

Just watched it and I just realized something.
Michael Fassbender either has a very large head or a small body. They're not proportionate to each other. And Charlize Theron should have gone fully nude.
End of review.

Saw it. Enjoyed it.
it won't change your life - but it's better than 95% of the shit that comes out of hollywood.

Box Office: 'Madagascar 3' blows by 'Prometheus' with $60.3 million
- THe demographic is inherently much larger for Madagascar. Anyone assuming Prometheus would do those kind of numbers is an idiot.d_rek
- is an idiotd_rek
- It's a sequel, a cartoon and has talking animals. No brainer.inteliboy
- Cant wait to see Pixar's Brave nosedive. That company is lost now. Why do they think kids would care about that??CygnusZero4
- It's sometimes as much as making something parents are willing to see in order to actually take their kids out to it.ETM

20th Century Fox has to be concerned with a rare 24.6% drop from Friday to Saturday for the thriller. "Prometheus" only grossed $16.1 million on Saturday hinting that the film's theatrical run may be shorter than many expected.

Saw it this afternoon. I feel I hyped myself up for it, and was expecting more.
The visuals were great, and I liked the design of the ship and the UI elements. The story was a bit lacking for me though.
The main thing that bugged me was the scientist's utter disregard for their own safety.
Shit like...
- HEY LETS TAKE OFF OUR HELMETS ON THIS ALIEN WORLD.
- WHAT'S THIS BLACK STUFF THATS OOZING? LET ME TOUCH IT TO FIND OUT...
- CHECK OUT THIS ALIEN SNAKE THING HISSING AT ME...YEAH IT MUST BE FRIENDLY!
- SURE, WHY NOT LET THE CRAZED ZOMBIE DEAD GUY BACK IN THE SHIP?
- OH WORD...ONE OF THESE BIG ALIENS THAT ENGINEERED ALL THESE BIO WEAPONS. DEFINITELY WAKE HIM UP!
- CygnusZero40
I think with movies like this you have to suspend disbelief. Yeah they do some dumb shit sometimes. There was literally no reason for them all to remove their helmets, but I think Ridley decided to do that at that point to make things seem more personal with them. It was a director decision.
The whole thing about waking that guy up at the end just for the sole reason of trying to talk to him, yeah it wasnt very smart, but I for the sake of making things interesting, I WANTED them to wake him up. I was waiting for that the entire movie.

^ True that...I'd like to watch it again just to look at the monsters. It makes you wonder about the relationship to the "aliens" monster. Are these related creatures? They seem to operate in the same manner. How many more types of monsters must there be with all of those containers?
- CygnusZero40
There wasnt a lot of aliens in this movie, just as there wasnt in the other Alien movies.
Im not a big Alien nut at all, but I know that there's basically 2 types. Those octopus looking things that like to latch on to face, they impregnate them, and it creates some sort of hybrid humanoid type alien, which is what the main alien is in the other movies.
They dont really get into all kinds of different types of aliens in these movies. Its pretty much just those, and then the engineers who are the forerunners of modern humans. Thats it as far as I know.

My only real gripe:
Why is it that in movies like this and Jurassic Park, the bazillionaire old man always CHEAPS out when it comes to hiring staff. Prometheus and Jurassic Park. Seriously, you just made yourself a trillion dollar spaceship or entire island full of dinosaurs, and you're only going to hire like 10 people to run the whole thing???!!Fucking republicans.
- monNom0
I really like some of it, but I'm kind of hoping that there's a forthcoming director's cut for this that's a bit of a deeper movie. This felt like it was cut down to be an action movie, from something larger and better defined.
sidenote: I think it would be pretty cool if the universes of bladerunner and aliens turned out to be one in the same.

Going to see this today, 2d or 3d?
- 3dpablo28
- 2D. I saw it in 3D IMAX and there was literally no reason for it to be in 3Drascuache
- 3d fucking sucks i'll never watch a movie in 3d again.sublocked
- 3D without a doubt. It was very well done. Better than Avatar's 3D.smrz
- 2D
inv - 3d. when 3d sucks its because they shoot in 2d and convert. 3d affects the way you perceiverobotinc
- the edit, and how you film action. shot in 3d films give movies like this more texturerobotinc

Still undecided.
For me it felt like it borrowed from a lot of other things and was trying to coalesce them together but didn't quite get there.
Weyland made me thin of Felix Jongleur from Tad Williams Otherland series, gazillionaire fighting mortality.Saw it in 3D and hate how much the glasses dull the colours down.
- Weyland is Raymond Kurzweilsublocked
- hmmm....possibly...thumb_screws

the thing is, it's an amazing movie, I'm just not sure if it's a good one - if that makes sense.
- yep that sums it up for me.thumb_screws
- Hey, that's deep.Horp
- As much as I felt it was an utter crock of shit, I can buy into this statement though. It did amaze visually and atmospherically.Horp

Why did so many of you read the forums to death BEFORE you'd even seen the movie?
How does that not ruin the experience?
There's a good argument for even avoiding trailers now, as they either (a) give the best parts away (Spiderpig) or, (b) are so unlike the movie it's tantamount to false advertising. But to see arguments, counter-arguments, screenshots and plot analysis BEFORE you've even bought your ticket is an utter waste of time, no?
This movie had a shitload of faults, but so many of you were looking for #plotholes and #errors to tweet about you missed a really interesting core theme (Engineers returning "about 2000 years ago") it's not surprising you were disappointed.

- Pffft, I saw the film before reading ANYTHING at all and still thought it was crap.Horp
- Well you're either lying or trolling, nobody posts this much about a film they thought was crapbiusness
