Hello,
I'm looking to do a ski trip over Christmas and am wondering if any of you have done something similar in Europe? We should have a group of around 10, so my questions are as follows:
- Is it better to do it via a package deal such as Fanatics? Or is it better to rent a Chalet and stay there?
- If we do rent a chalet, where is good to go for good skiing + great nightlife? We'd want to head out to a couple of bars if possible.
- What are the best ski slopes? Ideally we'd want to be able to ski to and from the chalet.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you

For 10 people, I'd book a chalet with a hostess. I've done it for the last few trips and I've found it better than staying in a hotel.
My favourite resorts for amazing skiing, to and from your door, and plenty of nightlife:
St Anton, Austria
Zermatt, Switzerland
Saas-Fee, Switzeland
Courchevel 1850, France: A little too 'bling' Russian for my liking now. But great skiing and plenty of it.- +1 for the RussianD4W33D
- +1 for the Chalet
+1 for Saas-FeechrisRG - +1 for those swiss resorts, Saas Fee is car free, lovely.BaskerviIle

Tignes France 2100, you can climb up to 3500.

Meribel's popular with the Brits and was a wee bit more interesting in the evenings than Tignes, if i remember right.
Christ, I miss skiiing — I ruefully stared at my ski-boots for a good few minutes just yesterday.
- Commononer that I am, I've always just packaged it - but my friends now rent chalets directdetritus

If everyone was to pick one for skiing and nightlife combo where would it be? And does anyone have any recommendations on specific chalets to rent?
I'm completely new to this. Thanks for your help!

I've been to St Anton twice. I'd go back again. The slopes have a good mix of runs but mainly intermediate to advanced. The night life is rated as one of the best in any ski/board resort in Europe.
The last time I went to St Anton (party of 8 a couple of years ago) we booked through: http://www.igluski.com
Can't remember the name of the chalet. I'll email my bro, he sorted it all out.
If you go you can't miss the Moosevut bar. That place kicks off everyday around 3. Come 7pm everyone heads back in to town but you have to ski the last run... total carnage but fucking hysterical!

has anyone done a trip package with Fanatics (or someone similar). I've looked at hiring a chalet but they're outside the price range and mostly booked unfortunately.
thanks
- never heard of them. They look like club 18-30 of the ski world. Could be good fun if that's what you're aftergoldieboy

Thanks goldie. Would you choose Tignes or Risoul?
They offer relatively cheap packages to both.

Haven't been to either. But, my mate boards in Tignes every season. She has friends who live and work out there. She loves it. Good all-round skiing/boarding and a good party scent too by all accounts.
I'm off to Slovenia in Jan (8 of us, £200 each for a chalet + £50 flight). Thought we'd try somewhere totally different. Cheap as chips too for apres-ski. Just hope the slopes are good enough. 6 out of the 8 are novice's so they'll be happy.

I'd want a mix of touring / backcountry and slopes. It sucks to spend mega bucks on a trip and get tracked out snow (thus the option to tour is nice). Hard to beat Whistler for that... but eh, a bit of a plane ride for you? (just a short drive for me)
- One day I'll ski Canada and the US. Have only done a weekend skiing in PA when visiting friendsgoldieboy

Here you go domacle. My mate found the chalet through owners direct:

I still haven't seen where we're staying but I'm not expecting much for the £ we're paying.
