Hey dudes, I have been directing work for a while (broadcast / live action / agency creative stuff) but I am on a mission to have some fun with my other passion, ski mountaineering by doing some filming. I am hoping some of you can recommend a good camera rig for pretty rough conditions (and not a goPro! already have a few of those covered). Mainly shooting in very bad conditions, low light, in the deep snow / backcountry. I'd like to have as cinematic of a rig as possible (good lenses!)... Any ideas where to start?

entry-level dslr with a rain bag or cheap weather cover/rain cape?

The GroPro is really fun / easy to use. The footage feels "ok" - the wide angle lens is really nice, good detail etc, but its not like having a nice 70mm lens.
Here is a quick edit on a route I did last winter with a GoPro:
The problem with the DSLR's is that you are blind as to what you just filmed - if your focus is even slightly off... oops (and the stuff we hit doesnt allow for 2nd takes).

I just got a gopro,
it's not THAT easy to use, the fact that there's so many controls and no preview LED (stock at least, you can buy one) the camera in my opinion is not very intuitive (and it only has 2 buttons)That being said, once you get the hang of it, is pretty fun, they are so freaking tiny and the fact you can go underwater alone, is an excuse to buy it.
not very good on low light

Something like this with a Canon Rebel would be awesome, but sadly the housing would be just as much as the camera.
