dudes, just grow weed to supplement your income.
Better yet, quit your job and grow full time. That's how we do in Vancouver and IT PAYS DIVIDENDS.
- even better, quit job, move deep into the woods and grow. And smoke a lot of weed. And watch loads of conspiracy videos.ThePublics
- waaay cooler than new york.ThePublics

Hi. First off you can live on $50k in NYC, but you will need to budget.
My first gig was an unpaid internship and I was given the opportunity to network, meet people and find an entry level job...quickly...from there a better job, etc.
If you want to live in NYC go for it, but understand your free time will be spent exploring and not popping bottles in the club.
What could be better?

Maybe 50k is low for junior..
but do they OFFER more at places, I wonder..?!
- akrok0
50k is not low for entry level / junior. even if it's in nyc.

leaving Amsterdam for $50K in NYC? why?
- bananana0
i'm pretty sure 50k is normal in this economy for entry level

$50k - %30 tax = about $35k - not that much.
Expect to pay $1200-1500 (parts of Queens), $1500-1900 (parts of Brooklyn) and up all over.
- and expect more like 40% in taxmanonthestreet
- when you earn a measly $50K your taxes are lower than 30%monospaced

it's all relative, but I lived comfortably on 50k when I moved to NYC. I didn't save a penny, and didn't have one left over at the end of the month, but I also went out, had a good time, etc. and certainly didn't feel broke.
It's also easy to move up from entry-level here if you're skilled. There's always an million new juniors coming into this city so a couple job hops and a promotion or two and you'll be making more in no time.

NYC standard is that you must make 40X the monthly rent, otherwise, you need a cosigner.
...in case no one mentioned that above.

Oh oh, it could be like Friends and you could live in an apartment and you could be like Chandler, constantly wanting to fuck everyone but your friend Mikey always ends up getting the girl because he's such a lady killer. Do it.
- And you could complain about your terrible huge appartment that only you and your other friend has to pay forkalkal
- Constantly sarcastic, always loaded yet with a TERRIBLE job. DO IT.kalkal
- Terrible low paid job. But you'll make it work. It worked on TV. Hang on, wasn't he a lawyer?kalkal
- 69 sounds good by the way.kalkal
- You could even end up on one of those TV montage things where someone needs a flat mate and you're the weird onekalkal
- Remember to turn up to work on the first day with loads of I HEART NYC apparel on, they love that shitkalkal

lot's of people in nyc make under 50k, it's doable.
- woodyBatts0
Totally doable. I came to NYC with a 40k salary, within 4 months I was double that. It's a town that rewards the hustle.

At this stage, don't concern yourself with "savings" or the starting salary. $50k, $60k, what's the difference.
Make sure to get a place you feel good about. Spend as much as you can on rent. A shitty place to come home to will eventually take a toll on you and your outlook.
Simply focus on the work and your career. The money will take care of itself.

Oh and I forgot,
congratulations doggydoggdog and welcome to NY.
Especially in this economy, you did well with 50k.

Find a fat chick with an apartment. Don't pay rent.

$50k sounds like a pretty good entry level salary to me. NY may cost a lot more to live, but companies don't just make more money because they are in NY (unless they have international exposure).
I am continually amazed at the sacrifices people make to live there, though.

Not sure it's forever, but everyone should live in NY once. Or London.
