on a somewhat unrelated, but same topic..
so spending ridiculous money on controllers and softsynths..
i was looking at the maschine.. but then i thought, in 4-5 years time. i am sure the software will be stopped being supported, then what do i have.. a box with no use.and then i was thinking about the OP-1 by teenage engineering..
slick piece of kit, except i runs on a battery.. and batteries fail.
and from what i have researched, there isnt any indication of a replaceable battery any time soon.. so are they seriously making it like a ipod/ipad where after a few years, its dead..fuck that.
synths should work.. and then keep working.
my sh101 is from 1983.. and sure, it runs on batteries.. REPLACEABLE FUCKING BATTERIES..
its 30 years old.
i highly doubt that a Maschine or a OP-1 for that matter, will be anything by ewaste landfill in 30 years time..

- im just pissed as i have some money to burn on new gear and there is nothing making me want to buy itautoflavour
- maaaaaaaybe the new moog, but it seems like it might double up the minitaur..autoflavour
- and i know myself, if i dont reinvest this money i have made from selling gear recently, i will just eat away it .. bit by bitautoflavour
- 5 euro here.. 10 euro there.. i am fucking hopeless when it comes to that shitautoflavour
- if it were me, and i don't do this so i'm lying, i'd save $$ and focus on core classics - 909, 303, 808 and little elseprophetone
- what i have done is buy lots of cool stuff and i barely have time to screw with it all, i need to win the lottery so i can just stay home, focus on musicprophetone
- home and focus on music and family. i'm working on this plan as we speak.prophetone
- but seriously, i feel like selling most of my gear and keeping only the analog essentials around + a macbook + maschine + keysprophetone
- a keyboard of course.prophetone
- first world problems.prophetone

let me clarify, while my sh101 is 30 years old, i have not had it that long.. but i do have a TR707 that i have had going on 15 years now.. and it still works flawlessly
- I always regret selling my SH09. ALWAYS.hans_glib
- Your problems have grown too large for us to help, I'm afraid.letterhead

Autoflavour.
Maschine isn't going to disappear in a few years, theyve had crazy sales with this new model so would piss off a LOT of their users if they deleted it. The software will continue to improve though.
The OP-1 has really got me interested still. They've got issues with the battery but i'm sure there will be an option in the future to deal with this - replacing the battery yourself or getting a electronics shop to do it for you.
The thing that was putting me off was not being able to back up stuff without having a computer with you. Turns out you can get devices for £30 that'll allow you to back up to your iphone/ipad. very enticing. Still a lot of money though.
For the money MASCHINE is a realyl good deal! you get a LOT of good sounds with it and Massive too!
It can run without the controller attached so you dont need to have it with you on the road and can make beats anywhere. The problem with big old synths and drum machines (for me) is the fact that they are BIG. Not portable- both for gigs or just jamming in the sunshine.
- yeah see, you say a couple of years.. i am talking 10 years. i have synths from the mid 90'sautoflavour
- and you cant honestly tell me you believe that in 10 years time the maschine or anything else controller wise will anything but junkautoflavour

Not really desperate for a whole load of instruments that i'd never use and effects that I already have other things doing that job, but damn MONARK looks and sounds nice.

- Are you finding the Mikro too cumbersome to navigate?letterhead
- i got it to use as a drum pad, it's been great, now i want the knobs for massivealbums
- albums0
As I mentioned above...
"I got it (the mikro) to use as a drum pad, it's been great, now I want the knobs for Massive."I had initially purchased the Korg padKONTROL, then got the Mikro instead for the software as well (that I rarely use) but it is only a MIDI controller for me to assist my APC40. While the APC40 has some production advantages, the direct MIDI correlation to the Massive knobs from the Maschine mk1 is more preferable to my production style, than mapping knobs on the APC40, which frustrate me more than please for their lack of sensitivity (the experience is uncontrollable and jumpy).
Plus, if I get the mk1, I can let a buddy of mine use my Mikro, so win/win.

the patternarium (from soniccharge's microtonic drum machine) - mind blown...
"Our servers are regularly spawning new generations of a thousand unique patterns, each one being the cross product of two other patterns picked at random. The higher votes a certain pattern receives, the more likely it is to get picked and bear offspring into the next generation. This means that you may participate and influence the outcome of Patternarium simply by voting."
