@err
I feel you on the controllers, I have several in my studio myself, it's only a matter of budget for her for the time being, the software being inexpensive compared to the hardware. I was looking for instances such as yours detailing possible shortcomings by beginning with software only. Any other input you or anyone else can offer is still appreciated.

Limiter №6
- 5 modules: RMS compressor, peak limiter, high-frequency limiter, clipper, true peak limiter
- high-quality signal processing to use for mastering purposes
- brickwall and soft limiting with different timing settings
- M/S and multiband modes
- optional 4x oversampling
- true inter-sample peaks (ISP) limiting
- analog-style indication
- 2 different GUIs- "Usually the HF indicator should not move all the time" ... what an irritating freeze frame.kingsteven

Ive been trying to get better and live looping / drumming / vocals / etc on the fly for the sake of doing it in my live sets - here's a little sample of the most recent 'work in progress' i got.. i'd love your feedback guys..

mantrakid,
Slower and longer than I'd usually listen to, but entertaining as it builds. Considering it's done live, I'm impressed, as I program everything I make. I really enjoyed some of the samples. Would love to play with some those bass / sub bass / growls. I like that "clonk" snare and the kicks together as well. I feel like the vocals were under-powered? They could have been denser / thicker / fuller? if that makes any sense. But if you're saying you banged that out as I heard it then did the vocals through whatever effects in 7 minutes... that's pretty cool man.
- Yeah the only part I had looping before i hit record was the first thing you hear in the track.mantrakid
- I used that as my metronome to get everything else laid on top with my RC50.mantrakid
- So live bass (mic pitched down) live drums, live singing, all with live effect tweaks... Its rough, but my first attempt @ thismantrakid
- particular song anyway.. the goal is that i get faster so tracks dont take so long to build, and then take it to the stagemantrakid
- Thanks for checking it out and giving feedback man, I appreciate it huge!!

mantrakid,
I didn't realize you meant live live! I thought you meant like setup in advance with Maschine or something live. Dude, that's awesome. I've used my Koassilator to build instrument & vocal loops, but never anything so complex. I also have a friend who plays live drum and bass on a full drum set with bells & bongos then emcees over it, dude's relentless. I've seen the effort and coordination that takes and understanding the switching, so that's even more impressive now.

@albums - Sweet man, thanks - yeah it's hard and that moment where i miss my drop on the first bar loop and feel like i have to improvise something fresh over the next 20 seconds before it comes around again still gets me sweaty.. i think if i do it enough, i'll get better at the quickness of it - what's your buddy's name - any vids or anything? How about your stuff? I'd love to check out more of your work too!!

mantrakid,
I've always done conceptual stuff, no real song structure or pop appeal. none of this is well mastered either. I always move on to the next idea without finalizing anything. My first project was remaking pop songs into somber experiences.
Death Camp March 15.38
https://soundcloud.com/jgum/sets…There's even a video, it's sad & depressing
I then moved on to something more soundtrack driven, however the clipping tends to annoy me as soundcloud is only 128kbs so my poor mastering gets highlighted as well.
Electricity Present (EP) 38.37
https://soundcloud.com/steppoten…Then there's some experiments where I was still thinking electronic / dubstepish but tried doing drum n bass and hip hop. A few of the tracks on this were liked earlier in the thread
Destructively Natured Behaviour 27.35
https://soundcloud.com/steppoten… 27.35I now have a trap song, a few dubstep efforts and some sick hip hop (so say my friends) that I've tried to be more genre specific with that add up to 23.35 that of course haven't been mastered. I can't decide if I want to get some vocals on these tracks before I upload them or what will even happen with them.
I might upload the one that has a vocal commentary as I don't see it changing unless it's mastered very well just to get the most out of it.

As far as my buddy, this is him over my drums
https://soundcloud.com/jgum/jp-j…this is all old stuff, he never updates this anymore
http://imjonprice.com/Those instruments / drums / keyboards are all performed by him & layered by me. You can tell the live performances. There's also digital drums in there as well.
and a noisy mix he does then emcees over on soundcloud
https://soundcloud.com/forthemas…- "move onto the next idea without finalising anything..." sounds so familiar.hans_glib

Just picked up a Korg nanoKontrol for half price and I have to say, I'm quite impressed. Physically it has 9 knobs, 9 faders, 18 activation buttons, 4 scenes, and play control makes it as versatile as it is small. All in all, you can count it as 36 knobs, 36 faders, & 72 activation buttons when mapping all scenes.
- is pretty decent for cheap hands-on control especially for 8-track23kon

For those of you here interested in taking a stab at sound design, or maybe you know anyone that would be interested, would appreciate the share either way!
