just got the quote for 5 cases of the Midi controller im designing, aint cheap.. prototypes are expensive.. 5 cases are like $1300 USD..
that said, im only making 5, and that price includes design fee as im changing a bunch of it.
that said these will be fucking dope .. well, hopefully.
otherwise I just burned like 4k on a whim.- I'm thinking of ordering a custom USB controller for my Blackbox to have access to controls without diving deep.microkorg
- this is very much geared towards any 8 track device.. ie octatrack or Digitakt.. but its just a midi controller so it can do anythingautoflavour
- oof, Can't you just use something off the shelf, and drill out the face plate?section_014
- Google search Midilar eurorack format midi controllers. I got a quote from him recently for an obscene 15 button 45knobs controller and was like £130.microkorg
- where is the fun in that.. also, this is a prototype for an actual product im looking to kickstart.autoflavour

Tried sitting down to make a non-work-related beat. microKorg for synths, maschine for drums and sequencing

Suko Pyramid is a true outsider spirit is shot through the music of 19-year-old. Uploading songs to Bandcamp and Soundcloud since the age of 15, he's rackedup a clutch of self-released albums under the Suko Pyramid name that skirt across the genres. Touched by the surrealism of Pet Sounds, Aerial Pink and Mac DeMarco, he's a disarmingly surreal presence. At only his fourth live show to date, he breaks the wall between the audience and performer to invite questions from the audience, rap an introduction to himself (just a single line - "My name is Adrian") and generally behaving with the same indulgent spirit you'd expect for someone growing musically outside of the industry.

So tonight I created these for sale at https://undgndtv.threadless.com/…

- cool! Are you designing it for a specific use?futurefood
- will eventually be a kickstarter..
specifically designed to accompany 8 channel devices (ie octatrack, digitakt etc) but its just a midi controller, can do anyautoflavour

I am getting more into the synth part of life. I have no business making music, most everything is "experimental" to be kind. There should be no need for me to spend tens of thousands of dollars on some synth fun. (looking at you autoflavour)
I had a microKorg, then an Arturia Brute, sold them both years ago. There are a few Pocket Operators floating around here somewhere, but as far as any noise that isn't from the sample library, all I really have is a Behringer Model D. Thought I'd have a Neutron by now, but everytime I fire up the Model D, I've been entertained enough given my skill set...
Enter the K2, Pro-1, Cat, and Wasp, all by Behringer. Given Behringer also offers a three tier eurorack, one could own all six of these, then mount them to two euroracks fairly affordably.
neat-o.
Cabin fever has me believing that all I lack is the proper sound inspiration and... wouldn't it look cool on the desk?
I'd buy used / refurbished where I could, so maybe $1,200 - $1,500 all in, but for now just pick up two more, probably the Neutron or Pro-1 and the K2 to fit into one of their euroracks. Then eventually the Pro-1 or Neutron, Cat, Wasp, and additional Eurorack accordingly.
It seems that a Neutron, K2, and Pro-1 would be a great setup in itself, but given I already have the Model D, I feel motivated to go for the full set of six.
Anyone care to chime in on this line of thinking? Maybe someway for me to have lots of different things with a similar budget, like a real Eurorack setup? Maybe I'm an idiot?
I see the small eurorack items littered across the internet, but support and the learning curve on bespoke units like that is a tough sell for me. I'm a fan of turning it on and it works along with other people using it as inspiration / guidance being easy to access.
Don't get me wrong, a $1000 collection of $50 - $200 modules sounds fun, but can't I get the ~same fun with these Behringer units?
Additionally, and most importantly, to my understanding, once these are all racked up and arranged, I can cable them to each other using the various ins/outs to each other like I already do on the Model D, they can all be wired together in some sort of cacophony, correct? The more units, the more unlimited the options?
Eventually, I'd like to begin a filter collection, but that's a talk for another year.
- Nice idea man. I've got the Neutron and it's decent. Although it's been sat in its box for over 6 months unused because i keep fucking about in Ableton :-(Ianbolton
- The behringer stuff kinda rocks and gets great reviews. $1000 isn't going ot get you much of a Eurorack setup. Think the closest you'd get to a 'setup' would...microkorg
- be an Erica Synths Pico System.microkorg
- hey, you can look at me all you want.. I have been collecting this shit since 1996 and have turned this studio over at least 6 times the processautoflavour
- whenever I sell something in the studio, it goes back into the studio.. and of course I buy new shit.. but hey, some people buy cars, I buy synthsautoflavour
- in answer to your question, sure they look cool, but what do they sound like.. is that what you are looking for in a sound? are they one trick ponies orautoflavour
- do they have depth and flexibility. I would way sooner suggest you look at a second hand Elektron Analog 4 than any behringer offerings.. or Roland boutiquesautoflavour
- look, dont get me wrong, they are based on classics (mostly) but they are definitely limited in their scope and sound. find a second hand Virus or somethingautoflavour
- also dont even get me started on behringer quality control.. its gotten better recently, but fuck me they are shit sometimes.. its literally make a bunch ofautoflavour
- stuff a quick and cheap as possible, if a unit fails, its just cheap enough to replace again and again. its the fast fashion of synthsautoflavour
- /rantautoflavour
- literally why i asked / named you as i presumed you to be one of the most informed. you're right, i spend much more on cars, music is an occasional hobby for meimbecile
- i don't use the model d enough to know if it has proper build quality, it works whenever i get out the box. I'll look at the units you listed. thanks againimbecile
- Depends on the sound your after.. analog4 or a digitone are a good startautoflavour

Got a new Mac Mini last Friday, and spent part of the weekend getting all my plugins moved over. Based on different things I've read about Catalina, I was expecting a shit show. But, it all went pretty smooth.
I've done my fair share of bitching about every company having an installer program, but it really made this whole thing a lot easier. I used Native Instruments, Izotope, Spitfire, XLN, and probably something else I'm forgetting. Aside from having to enter my password per plugin, no problems.
Live loops in Logic 10.5 is gonna be a game changer for me. The sampler isn't all that different from the EXS24, tbh. Movable fade in points per sample is nice, though.
Quick sampler is pretty rad. I recorded a percussion line I made on the modular, and was able to "chop it up" and use as midi addressable samples really fast. Would have had to do that by hand previously.
Drum machine designer, as it was previously, is a bit of a wet fart. It's basically just a stack of quick samplers. Ableton's drum rack is still miles better, imo. Plus it doesn't accept IAC bus midi, which I think may be a bug.
- just been checking out what needs done to get my hackintosh upgraded and ended up on the apple site looking at minis hahakingsteven
- I was in the same boat! Went with the i7 mini mainly because thunderbolt 3 support isn't there on hackintoshes, and I'm gonna upgrade in the next year.section_014
- Otherwise, I would have build hackintosh #3.section_014

- i have tb3 working well on mojave with mine, but didn't work with the TB3 -> firewire adapter for some reason. There's probably a solution but I just got akingsteven
- 10 quid FW PCI card instead - now it seems that is one bit of hardware that has compatibility issues.kingsteven

my PCB's arrive today.. super excited.
the cases arrived last week.. its almost as if its a real product..kind of maybe got a bit too excited and sent off the PCB before really thinking through what I needed, as I already have a revision 2 list of things, but I don't care..
its going to be fucking cool.
even if it needs revision immediately..

Having a young one and toddler in the house means I have nowhere I can leave my gear out without the fear of it getting trashed so I got myself a bargain pedalboard on eBay.
Everything is now hooked up and battery powered so can just get the case out and go anywhere to jam.Loving this perfect little portable setup. The Faderfox is new, still to go through the manual and setup templates for the Blackbox for more hands-on control.
- There is space for a little synth like Micromonsta, Shruthi or a few NTS-1's ;)microkorg
- nice. compact.,autoflavour

Anyone have a Monome Norms (Norms Shield or Fate)?
Looks like a lot of fun in such a tiny box!
Thinking of adding it to my battery-powered arsenal.
Pricey though.- https://llllllll.co/…microkorg
- If you can diy there are a handful of shops selling the PCB for $10

https://octopart.com…prophetone - Now you got me looking at this!prophetone
- Never tried soldering but think id prob be ok at it as like that kinda precision stuff. How difficult would one of these be to build? and get setup with the Pi?microkorg
- I was looking more at the FATES route, prob intermediate solder project w/ DAC as hardest part?
https://github.com/o…prophetone - But a nice weekend project and could get one running diy-style for sub $200 all in... I might grab a pcb or two, and a couple BOM pkgsprophetone
- CCTV sells an assembled clone for $380 CAD, I bet others out there doing same https://www.cctv.fm/…prophetone
- There are others doing kits but like £350-£380 on Reverb. £200 for kit from Monome plus a pi £32 = £232 (plus postage from states)microkorg
- Cheers for CCTV link though! Looks like £240 delivered to Scotland! He's made improvements and also its a nice case! I need to sell more tshirts to raise funds!microkorg
- Norns working on Push2 via pi !!! So if you have a Push2 you can have a norns for about £30!microkorg
