600/year means that in about 3.3 years you've paid the same for owning the software and buying up front.
Considering adobe puts out a new version at least that often, it seems like its about the same deal as outright buying, yeah? Seems much more geared towards freelancers or what-have-you that can't pony up that kind of scratch all at once.

this will put a whole new spin on losing internet connection in the middle of a deadline. I'm sure corporate IT will LOVE this too...
- so, it's a fact you need an internet connection to even USE it?monospaced
- no doubt, cloud right? could you imagine a whole floor of ad people being cut off!!robotron3k

I don't think you need a constant internet connection. You can play Steam games without internet connection, you do need to connect every once in a while but I'm sure it allows you to be offline for days and still use the apps.
- this makes sensemonospaced
- I hope that's right.alicetheblue
- SHame it's Adobe not Valve running it : SMrT

I did some additional research regarding the need for an internet connection after reading this thread, and I believe that you will be able to download the standalone applications to run locally on your computer, but then you can also connect to the cloud for other stuff.
I'm not 100% positive though, as the details they posted are not very thorough at the moment.

rusty_ace:"I really don't understand the need to own a version of software...what does it gain you to own a physical copy, of outdated code, stored on a disk, that is just collecting dust and wasting space."
that tool continues to work even after the new version comes out. I've got an old copy of PS7 at home that I find I rarely need/want features from CS5.5. I've got an even older copy of PS5.5 that I could probably get by with. and Illustrator 7 - it flies on modern hardware.
$600/yr is pretty nice for Adobe, but for me, I'd rather invest that capital once and have the option of running with the tool I know and trust, and only upgrading when features warrant it.
Case in point - I'm pretty disappointed with my recent upgrade form CS3 -> CS5.5. I've gone back to using CS3 since 5.5 seems unstable.
- I dumped my CS3 software with my recent upgrade to Cs5.5 (which cost me 1k) and wish I had not.Josev

I don't disagree that the latest versions are not bloated as hell and many of the older versions run faster for some simple task. But the position I am in, we get a fare amount of projects sent to us that always seem to be the latest version, so we never have much of a choice as to upgrade or not.
so if I want to take something home and work on it instead of an empty office...this option certainly seems more feasible for me, then trying to keep up with the latest version at home so i can take files back and forth.
Not to mention almost every time I upgrade, if i have the option I uninstall the old version and install the new version...now i have the old version sitting in a box somewhere.

Maybe without having to draw people in with each update cycle with showboat features they can now sit back and fix the fucking things and work on actually useful features instead of PHOTOSHOP 3D!!!.

I'm getting sick of Adobe, and there so called new updated products. That 3D shit Adobe put in PH is just a waste of bloody time, and I would of loved a update to managing layers in PH instead of gimics no one wants. Update that save time, help work flow, and speed up production are what I really need, not how to make fucking 3D boxes.

I still use CS3 and have yet to really need to move beyond it. Even if I were doing a ton of work at home across multiple programs I would really need to be sold on why to upgrade. I was going to move up to CS5 when I got a new Mac last year, but the cost was too high for being two versions back.
I don't do nearly enough work to justify this subscription service, but for some people I'm sure it will be perfect.

Maybe I'm just not understanding, but I've been on CS4 since it came out, and I haven't had a single reason to need to upgrade since then. I use Photoshop and Illustrator only. At $100 a month ($50 a month per app), that means I would have spent $2400 by now. I will easily continue on CS4 for another year, possibly two, putting the price point for Adobe CSCloud™ between $3600 and $4800, when I originally paid just under $1000 for CS4 Premium.
Yes, I am sure some people will say "You could have the newest versions though," but I have gotten by just fine without anything I don't have from CS5 or 5.5.
- I think the point though is that it's not for everyone's needs...********
- It's $50 for EVERYTHING, not $50 per appfourth
- THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING™ AGAIN.™********

I don't think for one minute that Adobe is doing this to make it easier for people to keep using perfectly adequate but old versions of their software...

The cool stuff is over here though:
