Just me or has Cloud been screwing up lately?
Lots of down time. Looking at their Please Wait screen for 45 minutes.

So I'm still happily using CS5 for print and photography.
Give me the top 3 legitimate reasons I should start using Creative Cloud.
I'm being serious here, I don't see anything compelling on Adobe's website. Their main selling points seem to be "Share on beehance" and the useless Kuler iphone app. Amirite?

I'm trying to convince my boss that we either don't need to update CS to CC, or certainly don't waste the money on updating Quark 9 to 10 and use inDesign for everything. Is the creative cloud worth the update from CS5? Everything works for us, although we're getting a lot of documents coming through that use CC that we then have to ask for them to be saved down.
Why are individual and business rates so different?
- Businesses already pay to stay legal... It's individuals who pirate that they want to tempt into paying,Amicus

CS5 is now 3 versions ago. I'm sure you can imagine there have been some improvements since then. You won't even be able to handle assets from other vendors and freelancers if you don't upgrade at least every other version.
- improvements are usually really minor though, let's face it...Miguex

I've recently signed up to fucking CC for PS and Illy, primarily because I receive a lot of files from a wide variety of clients, and so need to be able to open the files, which are increasingly sent as CC.
My use for Illy and PS hasn't changed, nor will do (because I only ever work with strokes and single-colour fills, no fancy gradients, strokes, etc etc for me) for years to come, but because of file troubles, I'm now bound to the modern equivalent of their yearly upgrade cycle.
Excellent.
Yes, I could just demand clients saved in legacy formats, or flatten everything and ensure PDF-compatability's turned on, but that's sometimes flakey anyway, and it puts a dissuasionary barrier between me and my clients.
So basically, I'm paying a subscription to continue doing the exact same work I can do with my paid-for edition of version Illy/PS 10.
Thanks, Adobe.
- Admittedly I'm possibly a somewhat outlier use case, but still - I fucking hate the subscription mechanicdetritus
- ..and as soon as an able competitor rears its head, I'll be off like a flash.
Rip-off bastards.detritus - but you're making $, and it's not even half of a cell phone billmonospaced

The only reason I updated is because I'm sick of getting CC files I couldn't open in CS6.

It's about 4x my mobile phone bill, monospaced, and we have it more expensive here in Europe, so I'm paying around $70 a month for two pieces of software.
Of course it's affordable in a business context — but what I absolutely resent is being tied-into an upgrade pattern that I would never have willingly entered into were I still able to buy hard copies every 2, 3, 4, etc years.
Again - from my perspective, I've already bought all the functionality I need from this software, many years ago, but I'm locked into a repeated forced upgrade path because of their file formats' 'planned obsolescence'.
- which an amazingly effective business modelprophetone

- I know, if I held their shares, I'd be quite pleased with their arm-twisting. Thankfully, I'm not an utter, utter cunt.detritus
- ..Well, not that way, any way.detritus
- your mobile payment is $18?monospaced
- Actually less than that, yes - I mainly use it for texting, emails and GMaps. I use a landline quite heavily though.detritus
- You probably have most of your work calls paid for by your employer, right?detritus
- ..er, although there are times like this month, where I've been in Italy, where it shoots up when I forget to turn data offdetritus
- So I end up paying $60+ just to download fucking emails, that I wanted to ignore anyway, hahadetritus
- I could have a free phone plan through work, but I don't want them to "own" my phone and datamonospaced
- and own your time. They'd love to call you every time they want to know what you put on your waffles.CyBrainX

$70 for two apps? I'm paying $53.xx and get all of them...definitely worth it to me.
- That's wonderful, thanks for rubbing the Atlantic Price Differential in my face!detritus

I think its fantastic. Each month it literally pays for itself in an hour of use if you're billing properly.

yup. really no reason to update otherwise. the vast majority of people don't even know what is new on updated software. Let's face it, they limit saving down to force customers to update.
updates are coming faster every year and the terms and conditions are becoming longer
- yup, not being able to open a clients file was my trigger, I wasn't about to tell the client "im outdated"moldero
- They have to save the .idmlmonospaced
