Early 90s. About 11 years old. Meet a new friend. His parents won’t let him have anything Nintendo. Said it’s a bad influence. Ask why. Says his parents said there is bad anti-Christian symbolism in the games. He recounts something about a “peace symbol” in the flag at end of each level. We laugh, because that’s a skull! Dumb parents! A peace symbol would be less evil!
Many years later, learning about magic mushrooms and realizing his parents had a point.
