Shooting of the Day

I can't imagine what it must be like to be a kid these days.

Like I've heard stories of classroom prep during the Cold War, which included getting under desks and whatever in case of an air raid / bombing. And that's a certain type of intimidation, but it also is sort of a nationalist indoctrination into believing in your country, etc. in that the government is imagined to be doing all it can to prevent harm / attack.

These days, kids are getting trained to duck under a desk in case their fellow students walk around with an AR-15. There are like eight different ways the government COULD work to prevent a situation where a child is huddled under a desk or running out of a school covered in blood.

It's one of those situations where I think, even as objective Americans, we're so far down the rabbit hole we can't even see the true level of tragic absurdity this entire situation holds.

School Shooting in Kentucky Was Nation’s 11th of Year. It Was Jan. 23.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/…

ATLANTA — On Tuesday, it was a high school in small-town Kentucky. On Monday, a school cafeteria outside Dallas and a charter school parking lot in New Orleans. And before that, a school bus in Iowa, a college campus in Southern California, a high school in Seattle.

Gunfire ringing out in American schools used to be rare, and shocking. Now it seems to happen all the time.

The scene in Benton, Ky., on Tuesday was the worst so far in 2018: Two 15-year-old students were killed and 18 more people were injured. But it was one of at least 11 shootings on school property recorded since Jan. 1, and roughly the 50th of the academic year.

Hopefully soon everyone can realise that guns are not the problem in America, psychiatric drugs are. How many shooters have been on meds? Go and have a look for yourself.

Drugs that are allowed, encouraged and profited on by the same people that will lock someone up for cannabis. Guns ain't the issue folks...

    • why make it one or the other? Guns are clearly part of the issue, even if opioids / societal issues are the driving cause.Fax_Benson
    • Well you're right, they're both an issue, but drugs is a thousand times more important...
      ********
    • But no one needs a fucking gun. Certainly not a machine gun or assault rifle.
      ********
    • Drugs is = the drugs issue is*
      ********
    • The point being the drug issue is far more important yet not being talked about. All focus is on the gun problem, which is merely a symptom of a greater cause.

Smh it seems so unsafe to send kids to public schools in the US. Are the partents here worried? editorially ones that aren't school age yet.

Will you make changes to your school plan? Are you going to train your kids at home about how to handle an active shooter situations, other weapons, and about harder drugs earlier on? I'm curious -- I do not have children but I often think about what I might do if I did. I think also about how I might handle the topic of police, because my future children would be unmistakably black which adds another layer of danger when out in the streets.#itscomplicated

Just heard them say on the news "this is the worst school shooting in Parkland County history"...as though school shootings are just a normal thing. Sickening.

Then you see fuckwits on SM saying more guns are the answer...teachers and administrators should have guns.

    Fuck me!

I'm done arguing on this shit. America is so far gone, there's no turning back. If the murder of 20 young kids at Sandy Hook wasn't enough, there's zero hope of an improvement.
