So, according to that "assault rifle definition" above, and AR-15 is NOT an assault weapon because it does not have a selective full auto mode? WTF. Never mind that it is the civilian/legal version of the M-16. Is an M-16 with the full auto taken out (as many are) no longer an assault rifle?? Jesus.
Or how about a H&K MP5...not an assault rifle because it fires "pistol rounds"?? WTF. Never mind that it is a favorite weapon of many elite squads.

If you don't classify by capacity then what are you going to use? An M-16 fires a common hunting round.
We gonna go by looks? You can get a large clip for so many common guns, making them no different than a M-16 (with full auto disabled).
Personally, I think there should simply be very demanding licensing for all weapons. More bullets, more classes, training, etc. Anyone that buys an Bushman should have to learn how to handle that weapon and appreciate it.
If you want to hunt, you don't need more than a few rounds. If you want to protect your family, get a shotgun.
Personally, I can't see how anyone can argue against that.
(the H&K is a gun I have loved since probably 10, I have stacks of their catalogs, I have stacks of info on the MAC-10, almost bought a MAC-11 ages ago, but I could never argue the logic that I would have to take a significant amount of classes and training to purchase it)

In 2008 more people were shot and killed in Chicago alone than us soldiers who died in Iraq. The Iraqis were using bombs and anything they could get their hands on yet they still didn't manage to kill close to the amount of people america managed to kill of their own, with guns in one state.

this whole needing to protect ourselves against a tyrannical govt. is so ridiculous. If the govt. wanted to f*ck with someone like that Yeager (the crazy gun nut who posted the video on packing a bag and getting ready...) it would be so easy. They could label him a terrorist and he'd be hauled off (I suspect if he were a ranting muslim rather than a ranting redneck he'd be gone by now).

I'll never underestimate the power of mob marketing and fear mongering. It is the most successful marketing campaign ever, that, and the "trickle down theory". Genius marketing, really.
The irony is that everyone was so scared about terrorists that they sat by and watched the gov't take insane power from the people, all the while cheering on.
If the gov't wants to take power, that is how they will do it. They don't need armies, some idiot with a closet full of guns will be hauled off in a millisecond. There will be no "organization" and "militia".
Personally, I can't think anyone with a high school degree really believes that crap, they just spout it out so they can keep their "toys".
