Jose Canseco accidentally shot off his finger with a hand gun Tuesday afternoon, according to TMZ. Canseco's fiancee told the network that the gun went off when he was cleaning it at his home in Las Vegas, and that he didn't know it was loaded. She went on to say that the bullet tore through the bottom of the middle finger on his left hand, and he was undergoing surgery. The Las Vegas ABC affiliate reports that Canseco was transferred to University Medical Center after the accident.

The man identified as the gunman who wounded three people at Florida State University's library apparently sent packages to several acquaintances before the shooting, according to one of them. What's inside the U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail envelopes is a mystery, said Joe Paul, who said he was among a group of nine people suspected shooter Myron May requested mailing addresses from in a November 15 Facebook message.
"I really thought it was a wedding invitation or something," the Washington, D.C. resident told CNN. "On Wednesday at 953 [p.m.] he said y'all should receive your packages Friday. Then I went to sleep and woke up to tragedy."

St. Louis police were investigating an incident in which a woman waving a gun inside a vehicle and saying she was "ready for Ferguson" apparently shot herself in the head by accident, CNN reported Sunday.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the shooting occurred Friday night in the city's downtown area. Sources briefed on the investigation told CNN that a police report identified the victim as 26-year-old Becca Campbell.
The sources told CNN that the victim was involved in a car accident. Campbell's 33-year-old boyfriend, who was not identified, was driving the car and told investigators that Campbell began waving a gun around and joking that the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.
The boyfriend said he rear-ended another car while ducking to avoid the gun, which then discharged and struck Campbell in the head, the sources said. The victim later died at a hospital.
The boyfriend told police that the couple purchased the gun because they feared unrest that may arise from a grand jury decision in the fatal shooting of unarmed black teen Michael Brown by a white police officer, the sources said.
Police were investigating whether the boyfriend's account of the shooting was correct, the sources told CNN.

The deadly shooting of a black, unarmed drug suspect by a white Phoenix police officer who mistook a pill bottle for a gun demonstrates the challenges law enforcement agencies face at a time of unrest over police tactics.

http://www.ijreview.com/2015/01/…A Montana police officer, Grant Morrison, shot and killed 38-year-old Richard Ramirez at a traffic stop last April. The incident took place in an area with a high crime rate. Now, video of the shooting has emerged.
During the stop, Ramirez, high on methamphetamine, reached for his waistband. Morrison, believing Ramirez was reaching for a gun, repeatedly told the man to put his hands in the air. When Ramirez failed to comply, Morrison responded by shooting and killing him.
This video above (the original video contains some audio static) shows us a side of law enforcement that is rarely shown or talked about. Morrison’s reaction reminds us that officers are also human beings. You can see the emotional toll of making such a tough call. Having to make that kind of split-second decision can mean life or death — for an officer or a suspect.
And while it’s true that police officers are given substantial authority and power, they also carry heavy burdens.
This week, a ruling from a seven-person jury found Morrison’s actions justified. Morrison told the jury:
"I knew in that moment, which later was determined to be untrue, but I knew in that moment that he was reaching for a gun. I couldn’t take that risk. ... I wanted to see my son grow up.”
Morrison, a five-year veteran on the force, took administrative leave after the shooting and joined an investigation task force.

SALT LAKE CITY — A heated exchange between a Salt Lake City police officer and a man was captured on camera moments before the officer shot him.
“What are you doing in the area?” the officer asked.
When Barker explained he was offering to shovel snow, the officer responded that there is little snow on the ground and tells Barker that neighbors have called police about him.
The officer then asked Barker for his name.
“No, I’m not giving you my name...because I’m just doing my business,” Barker replied. “No I’m not giving you my name.”

Update on this one. Cops charged. Good.
In March 2014, two Albuquerque cops shot and killed a homeless man following a prolonged standoff in the foothills of New Mexico’s Sandia Mountains. It was an incident that could have easily become another instance of a police-related death without enough evidence to bring about formal charges against the cops involved. But a police body camera caught the entire confrontation on video, providing prosecutors the evidence needed to file formal charges—and perhaps launching a new era of increased prosecutions against cops thanks to the growth of wearable cameras nationwide.

Kari Brandenburg, the district attorney for New Mexico’s Bernalillo County, filed murder charges Monday against Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez, the two Albuquerque officers who were involved in the death of James Boyd, a homeless man with a history of mental illness who was camping in the mountain’s foothills. It was an open murder charge against both officers, which will let prosecutors decide whether to pursue manslaughter, first- or second-degree convictions.
