- Can you really blame Justin?utopian
- that intel laptop tablet thing looks clunky afaliastime
- cute how when he goes to use the apple laptop, instantly the UI looks so much nice that sharp corner clunkly awkward pc. Ever tried document browsing in pc!?shapesalad
- He's playing both sides in a "long game" strategy. He'll be back (to Mac) in 2025 - 2030.ideaist
- lol********
- document browsing on a PC is horrible. I got a surface to draw. But the finder is a mess. Apple leads there.tank02
- Jesus, this is nuts... i'm a PC user most of the time these days but every thing they big up on PC is utter shit. Kinda desperate from intel.kingsteven
- They have a small percentage of the gaming PC market compared to AMD these days too. A series of very odd brags.kingsteven
- Hi I'm Just inbrt44
- Just a real person..brt44
- ...Feels Long********
- Ill use a Windows PC for a bag of money too.ArmandoEstrada
- Intel should focus to get to 10nm and 7nm instead of doing ads. They know they’re fucked. Apple Silicon and even AMD are putting them so far behind.NBQ00
- and AMD own ATI and ARM, Intel aren't going anywhere soon, but this sort of thing just draws attention to their plightkingsteven
- considering apple's tiny market share, am not sure why Intel is going after Macs. AMD is the one rocketing past them.inteliboy
- Because Intel is probably sour that Apple abandoned them as well as scared because ARM will overtake them.NBQ00
- because the entry level macs run circles around any other lightweight laptop with an intel chip in itmonospaced
- AMD own ARM? As in 'posess it' or 'do rather well with it'?Nairn
- M1-style architecture will be replicated - Apple just took a lead there, and will benefit inthe medium-term, but it's not some irreproducible magic.Nairn
- +s ffs, i'm not a snarky snake.Nairn
- ah, it was NIVIDIA that acquired ARM, do'hkingsteven

So my offices have been shut for a year. We go back in June but to smaller offices and I can now work from home 3 days and in the office for 2.
I need to get a new machine to replace this old 2013 27" iMac regardless. But now I will need to take a machine with me from Tues - Thurs and bring home the other days. My original plan was the new iMac when it arrives but that is maybe too much hassle to put in the car? So, I'm not sure what option to take. Which of these would you do?
A. 16" Macbook + 25" screen there + 25" screen here = £3.9k
B. Mini M1 + 38" screen there and 38" screen here = £3.4k
C. iMac + 25" screen there and 25" screen here = £3.4kThis will be in June so hopefully the iMac and Laptop options will be M1's too. Anyone else have any experience of this sort of setup?
- If you have to take it, laptop only makes sense. I have a last gen intel mini, but I wouldn't want to haul it around.section_014
- ^ yes. Supposedly a new Apple keynote is around the corner with new products. Might be worth waiting a bit before you buy.spl33nidoru
- mac mini, if car and so no need to use on train etc.shapesalad
- Laptop for suresausages
- The new MacBook Air is the M1 chip.monospaced
- I’ve been remote/office for many years with various 15” MBPs. Still am. Have a 27” 4K display at each location with a usb c cable. That’s all I need.monospaced

Mac mini situation getting better.
Adobe apps and CC finally updated, so PS is all good now.
Still a few audio plugins that haven't been updated, but I frankly haven't had much time to record since I set it all up.
LOVING the BenQ monitors. I don't think I could go back to a glossy monitor.

Hey, do any of you have a 2017 iMac and want 40 gigs of RAM for free?
I pulled that from my iMac before I traded it in, and I don’t need it for anything. Happy to send along to someone that could use it.
- Just wanted to say that's an odd number for RAMpango
- I would like 17 gigs of it, someone else can have the rest.calculator
- 32, 64, 128, RAMs like that mang,
40? Sounds like your talking about the flux capacitorGuyFawkes - 32 + 8monospaced
- 16 + 16 + 4 + 4 is my guess.monospaced
- It was 32; my numbers were off. Someone reached out - maybe one of you emailed me directly?mg33

Anyone here ever replaced a retina MacBook Pro battery themselves? I've found the right parts and video tutorials of the process but it still looks tricky due to being glued in. My eldest daughter could use it and aside from the battery it's still a good machine.
- It's a lot of very careful disassembly and reassembly. Definitely "advanced" as far as laptop repairs go.evilpeacock
- Might get the parts and get a repair guy to do it. Thanks for the heads upsausages
- That's a decent compromise. Still could get expensive as a new replacement battery kit is close to $200.evilpeacock
- it is absolutely worth it to do this sort of thing yourselfscarabin
- I started getting a bit iffy when they mentioned lots of heat and/or solvent to get the battery outsausages
- Use it plugged in and/or get an external battery pack.comicsans

@mono i hope you remember that article where i noted that they are moving forward to patent VR space.
- so you get a buzz from your AirPod, turn right and can't see the notification that appears on laptop.shapesalad

Apple’s new invention could be a game-changer for the foldable iPhone.
- Now Apple is claiming they invented foldable phones, LOL.utopian

- In the 40pt. headline of the story.

#OCDHayzilla - Apple would love to patent breathing, walking, and blinking. Fuck those fucking cunts.********
- "Now Apple is claiming they invented foldable phones" The words of someone who didn't even read the article they posted.Hayzilla
- Apple will be late to the game, as usual, but with the endless fanboys it won't matter. Smart, from a business standpoint, less risk, etc.formed
- Get's a big *YAWN* from me. This endless consumerism, with zero gain for anyone, is getting pretty tiring.formed
- Literally, the first words of the article say apple didn’t make the claim. Literally. That is the start and finish of the article. That apple didn’t say anythinmonospaced
- You are so damn obsessed it’s pathetic. You are also one of the biggest apple fanbois I’ve ever seen utopian.monospaced

"that's a big Noto uninstalling our fonts"hans_glib - Utopian = Innovation in Comments
#OCDHayzilla - Right click - show in Finder, then use `rm` from the terminal to make it gone. if it's a system font it could cause issues though. and it might auto re-installakiersky
- lol just uninstall some of your other shite fontssted
- dystopian wants to uninstall system fontssted

Anyone got a good go-to store for getting monitors in the EU?
I'm looking for a Dell UltraSharp U2720Q, I've seen them mentioned above and I'm sold on the idea... just finding them very hard to find in Europe.
Irish Dell store has stock issues with delivery - looking like August from them.
- Pretty sure if the Dell website says August, it's gonna be that way everywhere. Good luck though.Hayzilla

I brought my 2014 Imac in to get my hard-drive replaced, it was a 1tb fusion drive, but when I look at the specs now it looks like they installed a 1tb SATA drive and a second 121GB flash drive, I'm guessing this is ok as the fusion drive was a hybrid of the two but more concerning, is that now my mac has this weird boiling water sound coming from it.
or pigeons. or pigeons boiling water, i don't know but it's a little off-putting.Should I bring it back? seems to run fine though.
- "A Fusion Drive consists of two separate drives—one hard drive and one solid-state drive—that are “fused” together. Apple uses software to create a single volumgrafician

- yeah that's what it used to look like:
https://images.techh…_niko - now it's two separate hard drives, but i'm more concerned about the pigeons, the Pigeons!!!!!! lol_niko
- Put some candles under it to prevent the water from getting too wet but be sure to use a heat tape gunnb

- this mockup can't be right, they didn't leave a massive perturbing notch at the top middle for a camera :)_niko
- The notch that others copied immediately after you mean? ;)monospaced
- Nobody has a notch anymore except Apple. And they know it’s shit but can’t do anything about it until a under display tech is ready.NBQ00

Windows (ARM build?) runs faster in Parellels on an M1 Mac than it does on a top Dell XPS.
- x86, hmmmmonospaced
- graphics performance is atrocious, as expected :/monospaced
- Comparing it to a 2-in-1? That's virtually a tablet. How about, uh, Apples to Apples? Regardless, the chips on the horizon look promising.formed
- It’s comparing to a top Intel chip in a powerful XPS laptop costing 3x more. Apples to apples would be Dells under $1000 model. And that would be worsemonospaced
- This is faster than a 5ghz internet chip running windows arm than the M1 Mac running it in parallels. I didn’t make this up.monospaced
- Intel not internet.monospaced
