Someone want to put an ad for a year on one of my website. I've got an average of 60,000 visitors /months. How much should i demand?
- mg330
Enough so that you don't have to decide which Ferrari to buy, but how many to buy.
- monospaced0
$3,600. That's one half penny per visitor.
- What are they advertising?monospaced
- pr0n. my blog is soft-core-pr0rn oriented.benfal99

I think this is a cool problem for you to have though. I'm slowly getting to work on a project for myself that will eventually have opportunities for ads if I can grow it the right way.

whats the name of your site?

If you run a porn site, you should be making millions

^ I'd want that per month if it was my site. As your only advertiser, they're not competing with others to be noticed. That's got to be worth a premium. Per year isn't even worth the bother.
- 3000$/month?
No way, not with 60,000visitors/month... come one.benfal99 - *come on
:Pbenfal99 - This might be helpful in determining pricing.

- 3000$/month?
- ukit20
I think that would be way too high. Keep in mind, average clickthrough rate is around 0.3%. So from 60,000 impressions, how many clickthroughs could he really expect?
- bulletfactory0
would this mean they are the only third-party advertisement on your site? Will they be pissed if you allow other ads?
How much would you charge me to promote my scarlett johanssen-lookalike modeling agency/escort service on your site?
- monNom0
So you're going to sell all the effort you put into building your blog, your user base and all your labour into it, for a year, for $3,000???
Not exactly reaching for the stars are you?
(I don't know industry rates, but 3,000 for me wouldn't even be worth the administrative trouble and negative effect on user experience)
Maybe advertising isn't a money maker. You could offer a premium service yourself and reap all the benefits, with none of the advertising costs.
- i will see what they say and decidebenfal99
- Look at it the other way, how much would you pay for a few hundred click throughs per month. Because that is probably what the advertiser is going to get.ukit2
- probably what the advertiser is going to get.ukit2
- yeah i think 3000 is correct. they wont get that much clicksbenfal99
- i already have ads on it right now and i've made 250$ in like 10 months. Google-ads style ads.benfal99
- $25/mo? That's pitiful (as a business). Like I say, maybe ads aren't a business model.monNom

Is this your own content? or reposting stuff you find on the internet?

Advertising is typically charged in CPM. Cost Per Mille (Mille being the Latin word for 1,000), or cost per thousand impressions. So take your average monthly impressions (not unique visitors), divide by 1000 and multiply by your CPM rate. That's how you charge with a proper model.
Now, what is your CPM rate? The market dictates that. If you charged $1.50 CPM, based on extrapolating the info above, you could charge $225.47 a month for the ad, or $2705.64 a year.
I would think, however, for adult content, you could get a higher CPM. Do some research on CPM in the industry. CPM also varies based on the size and placement of the ad itself.
- so... $3,600?monospaced
- Once you establish your CPM rate(s), you can post a page on your site letting advertisers know.ETM
- @mono
Oops.. Right! I multiplied by 10 rather than 12.ETM - @mono.. wait... no I multiplied by 12. $2705.64 is right. Shit. Too many things going at once.ETM
- Where'd you get $3600 from?ETM
- 3000$benfal99
- I got it from my first comment. Also because you said "higher CPM" than for the figure you threw out.monospaced
- Ah, got it.ETM
- ukit20
Just go with the $3000 and find 10 advertisers. Suddenly you are making 30k/year just off your COTD Tumblr blog :D
- ETM0
So looking at some info online, some larger ad networks pay out as much as $3-$4 CPM for adult content...
- Even increasing to $2 CPM would mean you could charge $3382.05 a year.ETM
- 3000$ is a good amount i think.benfal99
- I think $3,600 is better. ;)monospaced
- Use the CPM and disclose it. It's the professional way to do it and you know what to charge next time you are asked.ETM
- So tell them you charge $1.50 CPM (or whatever, disclose your view stats and then they know its a correct valuation.ETM

Their answer:
"Thanks for getting back to me, but I'm interested in just a text link on the homepage and what you're asking for is way, way beyond our price budget. We don't normally spend anywhere near that much for just a text link, so it just doesn't make sense for me to spend that much.
Thank you for your time and if you're able to reconsider your pricing in the future please let me know as we would be interested."
- well shit... how much is their budget and how much do they usually spend?monospaced
- What's their product? Please say "bulk suction cup dildos."mg33
- monNom0
^ I wouldn't be too disappointed by that. Lots of people want something for next to nothing. I'd take this chance to ask what they "usually pay" for a text link so you know for next time, if they do display ads they might give you some insight there as well.
