You could have spent more than $400 billions developing a plane that can't fly instead of pretending of developing a plane that can,

Surely every new weapon will be 'the most expensive ever' - isn't that kind of the point?
- detritus0
And by the way, Georges - the reason the F35 i's 'the most expensive ever' is because of the extent of roles it is intended to replace, as well as the distriuvurted, incusive build economics it's working on (involving noney sent to yourvery own Italy, dontcha know?) Viewed as 'a single weapon, now', yes - that's quite a sum of money. Viewed as 'a range of weapons, over 40 years' it's well within the realms of typical expenditure.
It's only really obtuse people that don't make the distinction.
And btw, it does fly, quite well in fact. Only bettered by the F22 by most measures, and will only get better as it's developed.
Iran's thing probably just about flies in scale kit form (there is video, taken in the glum of twilight which attests to this, after all) - just as long as it's not expected to do anything an RC plane isn't supposed.
- jesus, i really need to start checking posts before submitting.detritus
- the jokes on you when you realise you could change course and invest money in education instead of the war machineGeorgesII
- it was ever thus, georges - in a roundabout way, it's shit like defence spending that enables education in the first place.detritus
- Tell me again - why did you family end up in Italy?detritus
- *grabs popcornmonospaced
- lol, you guy are hardcore,
I move to italy at 25 with my girlfriend because we wanted something different, you?GeorgesII - I guess your point is kinda moot now, but if that makes you hard, you can think I came by boat because I wanted to learn to readGeorgesII
- read and be around smart white peopleGeorgesII
- and how is defense enabling education, would like to know really without sounding smuggGeorgesII
- defence spending is investment in one's own industry - and my point about your migration was less banana boat, more 'benefits of industry'detritus
- 'benefits of unsavoury industry'.
there's a reason for the west's preminence, georges - it's war.detritus - (or the organisation involved in the machine that delivers it, used or otherwise).detritus
- man, aren't you supposed to be almost 40 and you still sound like a preteen who sadly haven't travelled much, benefits, ahahhaGeorgesII
- The problem's not in The Spend - it's in the taxation (or not), pork barreling, and monopolisation. Not the toy.detritus
- yeah, trying to juggle that one after the veiled racist comment, banana boats, are you living in the 14th century?GeorgesII
- I'm just not as hopelessly naive as you appear to be georges - tell me, what's an answer? Not a criticism, an asnwer?detritus
- no, you implied I was making that comparision - i said I wasn't by declaring it out as you wished.detritus
- please use the big as square below to make your point, then i'll reply, then you'll say tomato and I'll say tomaytoh, usualGeorgesII
- My point is that war brings our economies comfort - always has, will until there's a better model. Sadly there's not, yet.detritus
- where you obliged to bring my moving around the world to make your point about defense budgets??? no, you did it because it was cunty and lowGeorgesII
- because it's was cunty and low,
exactly what little girls do, you didn't have to do it, but you did it anywayGeorgesII - For being a peace-loving dude that is above it all, you sure like to argue a lot.DrBombay
- detritus0
I have nothing further to say to you, georges - you purposefully twist my question into an apparent racial slur when, if you know me as well as you imply you do, you know I wouldn't make.
i'd love for there to be a better model than spending gazillions on weapons, but we're not quite there yet. We're getting there (models such as EU, ASEAN, etc), but we'll still need these shared megaprojects to bind economies and therefore peoples together.
- So, why did you move to Italy?
there must be a reason.detritus - I regurgitate the question seeing as you continue to regurgitate the affront in the notes above.detritus
- I ask you what it has to do with the defense budget, I'm well travelled and have worked on 4 continents, I like to travel and move around,GeorgesII
- So, why did you move to Italy?

Lol @ banana boat racism. detritus may be an ass, but a racist he's not. Georges though, will always grasp at straws in failed reverse racism attempts.

You are the one that brought it up,
you didn't have to assume that my familly and I moved to Italy to reap the benefits, when it has jack shit to do with the question I asked you about defense spending, its all up there forever for everyone to read, don't try to make it up like it was related to our defense budget talk.

Detritus: Tell me again - why did you family end up in Italy?^ ^ ^ ^
what does it has to do with investing more in education instead of the war machine, why do you think asking me what my family (you assume we all moved here from ??) moved to italy had to do with the US defense budget
then to make it better you added:
defence spending is investment in one's own industry - and my point about your migration was less banana boat, more 'benefitsreally that is totally not racist, it's just assuming that we all go around in some raft with bones in nose and live in the jungle, then we came to europe and reap the benefits,
fuck you man, you're not the first person to used this terms on me and most of them were racist, sorry to associate you with them
- You read all that in there? Huh. And I'm the racist here?detritus
- GeorgesII0
what does my moving to italy has to do with anything with the defense budget debate,
am I not authorise to move to wherever I fuckn want?

Jesus you're dumb sometimes, georges - I was asking 'why italy' as i would ask 'why europe' or 'why the west', as these entities are built ground-up on the 'industrial military complex' - have been since roman times, have been since England ruled the waves, have been since America built the H-Bomb.
Evolving civilisation as we know it depends upon the sustenance of industry and the ability to project power (doesn't even particularly matter whether that power is used or not, it just needs to exist, to act as a proxy for a nation's violence).
It was a question less about 'You' than it was 'Anyone'.
'Why would any pacifist choose a country whose model is founded on the threat of destruction?'
I used the pejorative term 'banana boat' the second you accused me of being racist so as to divide my actual intention from your total misinterpretation.
But hey, if it's easier for you to label me a racist than it is to reconcile your essentially hypocritical life philosophy, then cool.
- untwist your panties and take a deep breath :|ZOOP
- I'm just responding in kindis all. I thought I was being reasonable and not particularly breathless...detritus
- I believe you should reread yourself, you brought up my choice of country up, you brought up banana boats and benefits, I didn't write that you did, if you copy paste the box you can read the msgs chronologically maybe you should do that before trying to lie againGeorgesII
- I didn't write that you did, if you copy paste the box you can read the msgs chronologically maybe you should do that before trying to lie againGeorgesII
- to lie againGeorgesII
- Hey georges, canny of you to totally gloss over this bit: "...and be around smart white people".detritus
- Oh, but of course - I'm white, so therefore obviously teh racist here. Fuck you, you ignorant, facile cunt.detritus
- I guess your point is kinda moot now, but if that makes you hard, you can think I came by boat because I wanted to learn toGeorgesII
- *makes more popcornmonospaced
- ead and be around smart white peopleGeorgesII

somewhere on the internet a thread about weapons designed to kill and/or dominate poor people descends into a fight faster than you can say "four hundred billion dollars would save how many lives?"
- oey0
- _niko0
fuck, if that's the kind of planes they build i'd hate to see their nuclear weapons.
- lowimpakt0
"without the military perogative, how far advanced do you think our tech would be today?"
yes, for various reasons (e.g. colonialism, dominance, fear, exploitation, theft of resources etc.) the military industrial complex has been a sinkhole for taxpayers money and by extension a hot-bed of technological innovation.
millions of dead people is not a commendable or justifiable outcome of any innovation or R&D programme.
just because that's the ways it is doesn't mean we have to accept that's the way it should be.
- tell that to the Crusadersmonospaced
- What about the Billions our technology can now sustain?detritus
- Competition is a driving force.detritus
- there's little competition in military budgeting. there is better ways to innovatelowimpakt

Complaining about the war machine is denying your roots. Each of us is the result of centuries of battle. We are the descendants of survivors, the victors. War is what got us this far. It will take us even further.
