if you use computers or benefit from vegetables using air-fixed nitrogen, they are your roots whether you find the idea of war distasteful or not.
you live under an umbrella of overwhelming potential subjegation or destruction - from the nukes that balanced the statistics of your cold war birth, to the threat of organised police or military resistance that defines a civil level of societal calm.
this is the reality that conflict has brought us.
we're at the point, so very near to a post-war world.
but we're not they're yet.

I was rather hoping global warming might be a good shoe-in for a universally-shared enemy we could all rail against... bu there's too much old-world conflict of interest.
We need a good, by which I mean relatively flimsy, alien attack for us all to get behind.
