Light colored roofs reflect sun light.
This helps your house stay cooler as well as
help with global warming...

Material choice will affect color, price, and the overall appearance. Depending on local code, the choices are limited to high wind approved or even go so far as only allow cedar shake. You can special order tri-laminate composition that come in two colors or more per shingle. Real slate/fake slate, copper coated composition, terracotta and a variety of low pitch roll out roofing make the choice a subject of personal taste, local ordinance and budget.
What is the house style?
What materials do you prefer?
Square footage can be estimated by measuring the ground dimensions and then using http://roofgenius.com/measure-ro… or equivalent.
Example of a typical tri-laminate:

Hmmh, where to start with this. Colors are/were probably first determined by regionally available materials and their functional properties. Slate, terra cotta, natural fibers...
Can start here, I guess:

Hola QBN,
I am looking for some references, studies, whitepapers which look at the subject of the color of the roofs in different traditions. Like, you know you are somewhere in the North, if you see turquoise roofs, and you are probably gonna get sun tan, if you see some blue or white roofs of a southern nation.
Is there a good read on the subject?
