I used to live in one of the most violent cities in America. Over the years I'd seen it all; murder, arson, GTAs, home invasions, hostage situations... on and on.
I always worked hard, and tried to lead my example. My neighbor was a single father, and admired my work ethic (found out later he was a heroin addict) seeing me come home from work and go right to work restoring pony cars and trucks.
He would send his son to help me mow the yard, hoping to teach him the value of hard work. His son took to it and enjoyed working with me on many projects, including home remodeling.
I returned home from a weekend trip, and found out my neighbor had died. He was driving his car about 100mph and struck a 1 1/2 ton utility truck, flipping the car over, decapitating him, and burning him and his girlfriend in the now upside down vehicle.
I was stunned, his son now had nobody. I took it upon myself to be there as much as possible for him, as I knew his invalid grandfather couldn't keep up with him.
He was the best worker, showed up everyone I hired. I was proud of him and seeing how he was keeping out of trouble.
Due to financial issues, I moved to a different state, and lost touch with him, as he traveled between two states living with his mother or grandfather.One evening I was home and walked by the T.V., the news was on, helicopter pursuit. A rolling gun battle had taken place and as it happens the secret service was in the area working with the local police. They shot one suspect in the head, and then handcuffed him.
Helicopter is tracking the other two suspects, walking right down the middle of the street.
The camera zoomed in just as one looked up, and it was my neighbor's son! He was texting the whole time, one black sedan and a marked cruiser both drove right by them, forcing them over to one side as they passed in pursuit. It was like keystone cops! They eventually caught him of course, but The whole thing was just bizarre. The last thing I'd heard about him was that he shot himself in the foot with an AR-15.#regret
Anyone have tales of the surreal to share?
I'll relay the details of a crooked cop and his attempts to frame me if anyone wants to read about it. Turns out he was also a pedophile.

Was just laying in bed asleep, and check out what happened:
These guys across the alley, in a basement level apartment have been rather annoying this weekend, having parties, being noisy all night, waking me up here and there.
At about 2:20 a.m. I was woken up by some shouting, so I went to look at the window at their windows.
I hear "Who the fuck is in there!" and all this screaming, most of the lights are off.
I see two guys go flying across the kitchen, looks like fighting.
Hear others in the house shout "Who's fucking fighting!?!"
Turns out, it was a break in. Apartment full of 7 guys sleeping and one of them woke up to see someone standing in the dark with their playstation.
I'm watching and can only see through windows, but all this shouting, "Get him on the ground!" "What the fuck are you doing in my house???"
Yelling to call 911, etc.
From what I've overheard out my window, one of the guys there is a wrestler/fighter/ Ultimate Fighting, etc.
The guy that broke in was armed with a screwdriver, and guy I just mentioned got control of him and the guy still got up on his feet.
From what they've said, there is blood everywhere in there. I think they thought they may have killed the robber.
I saw someone grabbing an iron to try and tie him up with the cord while waiting for the cops.
Shouting at the robber "You picked the wrong fucking house!"
The cops get there, some of the people in the apartment are outside. The cops are standing over the robber in the kitchen, and he is STILL trying to get up. All kinds of shouting at him. More cops show up, ambulance, etc. and when they bring the guy out, his whole head is covered in towels and he's all strapped to a stretcher.
I could sort of get a view down into the room from my windows, lots of blood smeared on the kitchen floor.
Listening to stuff out the window...telling the cops...someone woke up to see the guy in there, and finally the smashed a chair over his head to get him to the ground.
Fucking crazy. It's 3:22 now and I'm usually asleep. I think the robber is still alive, but I think they messed him up hardcore. Like I said, one of the guys in the apartment is an Mixed Martial Arts fighter, and he got cut above the eye pretty bad. They just kept saying there is blood all over the apartment.
The investigators found suitcases in the trash around the side of the building with other stuff stolen, and evidence that the robber had stolen that stuff.
Just insane. Here I am thinking they're partying and they're actually fighing someone who broke in.

Or how about the time one of America's worst serial killers stole my trash can. Turned out he killed my best friend's aunt. We all worked at the same place a couple years before he was caught.

i watched my stepfather get exorcised by mormon priests when i was a little kid. he started speaking something that sounded like klingon and they kept shouting at him "WHAT IS YOUR NAME DEMON WHAT IS YOUR NAME!" while holding their hands on his head.

he used to keep me up at night telling me how i was going to grow up to be the antichrist and was going to lead an army of men someday, but that it's totally not a bad thing. he had all this evidence he pulled out of the bible about head scars or something that had him totally convinced.

well I've seen a guy got beaten to death in front of me. I was in high school working at a pool hall. 6 guys came with mask and baseball bat beat the shit out of the other 4 guys. fuck no I'm helping when they have weapon and more people. I was just glad they didn't come for the cash till drawer where I was right beside it. called the police and ambulance. one of the 4 guys died of internal bleeding in the head.
later found out it was drug deal related.
