Yeah, I guess I'm an idiot for suggesting the Mac Pro might be a game machine:
iOS 7 to include standardized game controller support
- naw, you were an idiot for suggesting it on the basis of the inclusion of HDMI :) ...kingsteven
- now you're an idiot for getting mixed up between ios and mac os :pkingsteven
- mac pro would probably make a mean gaming machine thokingsteven
- I game with my 12-core Mac Pro!
; )ideaist - Yep. Sure hope those power users don;t mind iOS7 on those beasts.ETM

I use a USB XBox controller for tons of games already, working right out of the box with full analog everything intact. With Steam support (and its Big Picture via AirPlay) it's a pretty robust gaming platform, so hopefully the Mac Pro will continue pushing Macs back into that realm.

^ Most USB controllers work on Macs these days, use a PS3 pad and a USB Saturn pad myself.
However the Mac Pro GPUs are not really suited for gaming, they're more 3D workstation tier cards. Of course it'll perform fine with games but maybe not as good as a similarly priced gamer cards
- exactly! anyone confusing the Mac Pro with a gaming machine needs to shoosh, right?monospaced
- I considered the PS3 pad, it's fully functional? Steam recommends the XBox one, but I'm always looking for options.monospaced
- Xbox pad is probably a better option just because lots of Windows games focus on it.animatedgif
- I just use my PS3 pad out of preferenceanimatedgif
- I prefer the Sony, feels better in my hands.monospaced
- that's what she saidjaylarson
- a saturn pad? dude... you know how to choose your game pads. its a beaut. love ps pads tooHombre_Lobo

what are the concerns from video people? It seems designed with Motion Design and Animators in mind. No CUDA Support?

I don't care what it looks like, as long as C4D renders faster haha.

One think that's a bit odd is that it doesn't seem to have an inbuilt dvd drive. As most users of these will be video and music professionals it seems like an oversight.
I thought serving a purpose was supposed to be the priority.- Nonsense! People don't burn dvds anymore!d_rek
- They are building a machine for tomorrow, not for today...ideaist
- You attach that externallyPupsipu
- does it come with one then?Hombre_Lobo
- No you just have to buy it externally, I was saying the same thing.. but I guess DVD CD etc. is on the way out.chossy
- Although I burn DVDs all the time it would have been nice to not have to fuck around with yet another external device.chossy
- Why on earth would a video pro burn a DVD in this day and ageanimatedgif
- backups/cataloging. Drives are expensive and blink out of existence sometimesmonNom
- backups on DVD? ha.fadein11

I read some other comments on MacWorld where a couple people talked about how little they use a MacBook Pro or an Air because they use their iPads almost all the time. And they then said something, in so many words, to say they couldn't justify buying the new MacPro because of that. Seriously... Why would you even for a split second waste time to type that when its obvious you would never need that kind of power?
- mg33 did you know that my dog isn't interested in the new MacPro's? I'm not joking dude, he rly isn't fussed :PHombre_Lobo

The real question is how much is this thing going to cost...

what I like is that it does seem like it is somewhat portable. I can imagine taking it home from the office to work. I mean, it is just 9" x 6".
At least I hope so, because then it is my dream machine - a kickass computer designed for Motion Graphics that I can take with me so I can work from home! Awesome.
- yeh man, like a shuttle.
shuttles were ace if you needed a small serious rig.Hombre_Lobo - what's a shuttle?twokids

Someone, somewhere, is designing a custom cylindrical carry-all with tubular neoprene inner sleeve, outer velcro-closure pouch for peripherals/wires, and rubber nub feet and stiff base, for setting it down on-the-go. Mark. My. Words.
