No Time To Die

- huh, I'd've thought you'd br right into a flick with 'Rangers' in the title :)Nairn
- Lol, yep, the teddy bears!PhanLo
- I was working with a group of kids in Falkirk on a mural and we had to paint a grassy section. It was going to be green obviously, but the kids were Rangers...PhanLo
- ...fans and asked if we could paint the grass blue. Because green was Celtic.
Poor bastards.PhanLo - Did I ever tell you about the time my Grandad took me to buy a footie top in the town North of Glasgow they lived in? I could pick any one, so pointed to ...Nairn
- ..the white and green one I liked and some of my chums up there had. Nope. Not THAT one - now my Grandad wasn't into footie, or religion, but that was too far.Nairn
- So I ended up with the dull Rangers one instead, haha. I can't ever recollect wearing the damn thing.Nairn
- Other half of my family are all catholic, so I always found That Culture a bit weird when I went up there. 2 best pals up there, one was Blue, 'tother Green -Nairn
- - they wouldn't talk to each other around match times. So weird.Nairn
- It's a mad thing, my best mate as a kid, Bob, when I'd go visit him his grandad had pictures of the Queen and Diana about the house.PhanLo
- We went to stay with one of his uncles who lived in the central belt and he found out my family were catholic and fucking hated me.PhanLo
- Turns out he took Bob's older cousin on an orange march that weekend. I sort of wish I got to go, but as I said, the uncle got really drunk andPhanLo
- would swear at me.
He's got dementia now, I met him at a funeral some 25 years later.PhanLo - Bob's grandad had fought in WW2 and lost two brothers, must have been weird his grandson being best pals with a Tim.PhanLo

Visually striking and absolutely fucking woeful. Out of sheer badness and in the spirit of forthright self-destruction I watched it yesterday for the first time since its release and I can't remember a damn thing about it. No impact at all.
- 'cuz you had no exposure to European comics?
This is straight out of the comics, it's really good!grafician - Comics may have been good, but the movie sucked. I watched it a second time just to make sure.lemmy_k
- I sort of liked it as a guilty pleasurePhanLo
- It was good up until Space Oddity endedfuturefood

- graf, you really need to log the fuck off.face_melter
- Well. It has its moments. Looks gorgeous. But really, read the Valerian & Laureline comics instead, they are stellar.jagara
- But yes, a sad misfire of a film. The characters have zero chemistry. Both are good actors otherwise, IMO...jagara
- I tried to watch this a couple of times. Utter shite.monospaced
- I liked this UNTIL blue Rihanna came in; totally killed it.ideaist

Just watched this spectacular turd of a movie last night-- full of terrible dialog, pointless scenes, cringy misogyny, and just bad camerawork. The trailer above captures it pretty accurately actually.I watched it with a big group of people and we were laughing (at it) the whole time.

"Moose is a rabid movie fan who's obsessed with his favourite celebrity action hero, Hunter Dunbar. When cheated out of his opportunity to meet Hunter, Moose gets help from a photographer who knows how to find celebrity homes. When Moose's actions begin to take a darker turn, Dunbar soon finds himself at the mercy of his increasingly dangerous stalker."

After watching The Usual Suspects again for the first time since it came out and loving the script, I tried watching another Chris MacQuarrie film: Jack Reacher.
Omg the script is so bad. It’s hilariously bad.
- Reacher could have been the start of a solid action series, there's enough of the bloody books. Pity the character's at least a yard taller than Cruise control.MrT

- you're telling me the Space Jam reboot is bad??
I am shocked. SHOCKED.sarahfailin - first 30 mins: looking for nostalgia, getting disappointment.
last 30 mins: getting emotional on the 3d stuff, and the extras moving ridiculously.sted - can't recall anything between the two.sted
- they depicted lebron not selling out. I laughed.

Not recommending this, just couldn't put it in trailer of the day.
Looks like bleach in the eyes.
-- Whoa!! was the entire thing shot on an IPhone? ... well, at least the acting looks like it might win a few awards.Ramanisky2

Gwife signed up to Disney+ to research a production that was on there so we thought "great, we can finally watch those mindless Avenger movies!" Turns out there's also all the flicks for the individual heroes, so we thought it'd be amusing to watch them all in progression through whatever 'phases' Marvel have. I mean, I quite enjoyed the first IronMan, all those years ago.
They're all shit, aren't they?
I get now what Scorcese was on about when he bemoaned their existence - they're not cinema in the old sense, they're just roller-coaster eye candy.
Thor is the one that's surprised me most so far - a stellar cast but just.. bilge. Utter, utter bilge.
I know it's pointless for a middling middle aged nonent to make this point about kids movies, but I was genuinely a bit surprised.
Will plough on though, at least for the Avengers flicks themselves. I need to make sense of all the internet memes with that big headed dude destroying the world with the jewel ...things.

Saw this over the weekend.
Not the least bit impressed.
Another Luc Besson turd.

I watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind the other day, it'd been a while.
On the one hand, it's classic 80s Spielberg and has that visual magic and playful build up of tension he's so good at, but on the other - the main character is a cunt who leaves his wife and kids, the aliens are random-ass trolling shitstains who think nothing of hoying people through time, essentially killing them from the viewpoint of the fmaily of those pilots who got caught up in the Bermuda Triangle, etc - or scaring the shit out of a mother whilst abducting her kid, only to give him back days later - for what? None of it makes sense. None of it has any useful thought. It's fucking long.
It is quite pretty though.
- Based on the popular ufo stories of that day. Also with no internet back then, the movie would've been amazing for those folks in the '70sgrafician
- Oh fuck, it was from 78 wasn't it?
Durr. Still.Nairn - I need to watch E.T. again.
Fucking loved that shit when I was a kid.Nairn - I mean, the movie 3D visualised the ufo stories only published on paper back then. Pretty cool for those days, but today not so much.grafician
- simpler plots for simpler times...grafician
- it's a little slow at times but so many great set pieces. Great stuff about Spielberg and Lucas both thinking they'd made a sci-fi turkey at the same timefadein11
- Both praising each others film as a masterpiece and shit scared their own was shit.fadein11
- you have a link to that, fadein?
what is that?Nairn - er.. I mean like "I'd like to know more" not "CITE YOUR FUCKING SOURCES, CUNT!"Nairn
- https://time.com/436…fadein11
- the fuller story is in a book on 70's cinema I read a while back... will dig out, got it here somewherefadein11
- https://i.imgur.com/…fadein11
- they always helped each other early on, there's a section on Spielberg's paranoia about Close Encounters, but I will look sad taking another pic won't I?fadein11
- +1 thanksNairn
