Ok... here's the problem with this remake and the problem with almost all young-adult-targeted films that get churned out now... this is the main difference between then and now and why this one just fails out of the gate imo...
ORIGINAL: the original film was dark, dirty and nasty and the characters hadn't had showers for at least a week or two and you could almost smell it through the screen. the violence was more about the tension of the situation; desperation. the main bad guy was ugly as hell and scary. it was unsettling, but awesome.
REMAKE: it's sorta sparkly and everyone just had a shower and has been using proactive because their skin is so perfect and glistens when there's a nice fire nearby. and oh man we better make the violence as predictable and in your face b/c shock value and instant gratification. Everyone outfits themselves at Hot Topic. Also sexy slo mo everywhere bro. And let's apply all those dreamy sunset filters from the O.C. kthx.
- what's the point of making it the same way twice?scarabin
- well... i see ur point and yet let's talk about akira...prophetone
- and i guess the big answer to your query scar would be this: why remake this classic at all?prophetone
- stay the f*ck away from it! hahaprophetone
- as i get older my feelings about these movies that moulded my childhood become more protective i guessprophetone
- and then i start complaining about O.C. sunset filters 'n the modern prettification of films.prophetone
- i think since i didn't really grow up with the film i'm not as protective of itscarabin
- look at 'the thing' remake, they extered all that effort for the remake and like missed the point of it altogetherprophetone
- they missed the point because they were too worried about pretty characters w/ no dimension + CG was bad too bootprophetone

its not a real remake. apparently its just a fan trailer made as if it was an updated remake but an actual movie wasn't made. says more in the youtube notes.
made by this person... http://www.rambhat.com/still-war…
- bwahahaha well colour me stupid. but honestly this is a big phewww. dodged the bullet.prophetone
- his other work looks pretty cool as wellscarabin
- as concept piece it's actually really well executed. good work.prophetone
- yeah i was relieved too. cool project I guess.lodef

I actually loved that. Tho, they looked a bit too young for it all, but I'd watch 90 mins of that. Looked slick. I even dug the updated logo. Furies looked awesome. Lizzies looked bad ass.

For fanmade = not bad.
Though if this was real = fuck no.
And why is everyone good looking in this? Fuck that. The Warriors and all the other gangs should be a nasty crew of street kids, scum and junkies. That's how you could remake it.
- wait, is it fan made? dafuk
it looks fucking awesome then!!feel

aren't you guys being a little bit haters here?
now that I know its fan made I think is a great achievement imo.- indeed. but it duped me as a fer real and hence i flipped my lid. as a project he gets a bravo imo.prophetone

Jesus christ, it's a fan-made trailer. I may be biased because Ram is a good friend of mine, but he's just taking a different approach to it, and it's totally commendable given how much work and effort he put into it with his own money.
It's so easy to sit behind your computers and smash someones right to their own creative liberty. How many of you here have done something with it that wasn't commercial? Jesus.
- i think it's hot. not sure why everyone thinks everything should be ugly and unstylizedscarabin

Terrible type at the end.
Palm trees?
NYC is safe now/

ok, so here's the thing. i feel bad now for ranting. haha
but the rant was fueled by my deep seeded hatred for the way hollywood is homogenizing classic and cult films and rebranding them for the kids now. and let's be honest shit is dumbed down so much now. and it's the big commercial money machine motivation behind it. and the budget is there to do it right. so i don't like it i guess. this is maybe why i'm being drawn now more to films like stoker, looper, etc. the characters are damaged.
but man even worse they remake a film and just drop the ball on just the feelings the original conveyed. the mood. the recent remake of the thing, are you kidding me? possibly my fav horror film second to tne shining and they screwed the pooch. or let the right one in and evil dead and carrie and oldboy, etc. go forbid someone attempts a shining remake, can you imagine?
one that got it right imo? dragon tattoo. i love the original more of course but fincher just knows how to get the mood right and in many ways he improved it. and mara brought her a game.
anyway, eventually finding out this thing was a fan-created indie concept piece on a shoestring budget has my vitriol opinion doing an about face 'n retreat.
as a visual re-interpretation on its own it's pretty outstanding. clearly nice work. maybe a little too good!

c'mon, the original was practically a cartoon

on one hand you could say that a new visual language has been established and there's an unignorable opportunity to translate older, successful titles into that language (a much more sophisticated and technologically capable stylization) while on the other hand you could just as easily say there's plenty of non-reboots being produced as well. in the end though i believe even our favorites, with few exceptions, had anything other than profit as their ultimate goal and that expecting any more than this is sort of quaint and altruistic
- or that could be the rum talking and i don't really give a shitscarabin
- i have to agree with ya. it's the new style! but man c'mon they gotta take risks now like before and create new classicsprophetone
- you lazy goddamm movie remaking kids! get off ma lawns!prophetone

Yeah that The Thing remake was pretty sad wasn't it? It seems like studios are looking for a proven return on their investment, which is why all the focus on remakes and sequels. And taking chances on something too different is risky, so you get this middle of the road focus grouped approach in terms of plot/ storytelling. TV and video games are much more creative mediums right now.
- prophetone0
so true man, creative risk vs. profits. it's the reality i guess. but you know, there are indeed a few great cult-like flicks that pop up nowadays and stand on their own despite having an R rating and being geared for more targeted audiences. and taking the time with the details and the sound design to set the tone.
looper is a good example i think. movie had a great story, visuals, it was a shoot em up but with sh*tloads of heart, esp in the second half. soundtrack was great as well, super super important.
maybe in 20-30 years some 10 year old kid who's watching those now will get to bitch later when they're remade and turned into a 2-hour episode of laguna beach or some sh*t.
- inteliboy0
Stylised is great. Who said anything about ugly? It's actually damn good for fan made. Criticism came with the idea that this is an actual remake.... or there is a remake on the horizon... and this looks like dslr video and local b-grade models dressed in costumes.
- i_monk0
It's not like they're going to re-release the originals on screens around the world and make hundreds of millions, and original "IP" is risky, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that Hollywood loves remakes and sequels and reboots and prequels and anything else that comes with hype and audience preinstalled.

I'm gonna be honest, and probably get a load of hate for this but really...I didn't think Warriors was THAT good. I mean, its ok for what it is, but it was always pretty corny. scrawny guys walking about in leather waistcoats etc? *records over VHS with Howard The Duck*
- ha! well it was one of those 80s films that blew my mind a little. kinda like how nothing will top blade runner imoprophetone
- so yeah i guess it's either in your system programming or it isn't... does it stand up well now prob notprophetone
- i think we all have these movies we hold close to the chest. maybe yours is howard the duck... lolprophetone
