It is fun sometimes and easy sometimes and I don't want to do research or be a doctor or dig ditches.

I still care, but the amount fluctuates and is usually smallest when rolling out some fuckstick corporate strategy piece about 'Being the Reason'.
I'd also love to have some other 'real' business too/instead but we can't ALL do that...

Do I care about it as the outcome? No. Am I interested in it as a vehicle and method for the things I do care about? Yes.

WE all are going to die and 99% of us won't be remembered for long, but you got to do something with your life.
Life is pretty pointless if you don't take pride in what you do or you waste your time.

but do you care this much?

Most people have more than one career in their lives.
What are you going to do if you don't get that big creative director job by 40?

Is this natural? I've hit the 5 year mark and sometimes my interest fluctuates.
- Yeah, just like everything else in life... the flame dies down, but you'll get it up again.canoe

I care cuz it bothers me how things look and work.

My 'love' for design has deteriorated but my desire to produce quality work for my clients has not.
I dropped the 'uniform' years ago and pretty much dress like Jeffrey Lebowski these days... and I have literally lost 'friends' because I don't keep up the expensive carbon copy appearances...
I still find myself inspired by a quality EC post... I still scour the web, books stores, thrift shops, antique stores, museums, art walks etc etc always looking for inspiration so I suppose I do still 'care'... I just don't have the 'lust' to show it outside of making sure my work keeps me consistently fed.

When I was 18 to about 24~26 i was caring a lot. Now Iam 35 and i dont know, the game has changed.. Something was happening in 1999~2005 ... all the web community around graphic was so cool, funny because we no social media, we only had emails, but it was more friendly and i had the feeling to take part of something. QBN is all that remains from that era. Like the web was smaller at that time and now its so huge, we're all lost.

^it was a bit like the wild west, endless possibilities, making it up as we went, everything was an undiscovered country, full of wonder and promise.
Along the way Neilsen happened, Steve Jobs happened, everything became more and more standardized, more compliant, too much analysis too much SEO, too much numbers and science behind it all, design lost its soul.
Don't get me wrong there are tons of amazing things still being done, but innovation is hard to come by, design seems to be going in circles, maybe it's reached a saturation point where all that can be done has been done and available as a plug-in.
To once again paraphrase a wise man from QBN (moldero possibly)
"Web design is now editing other nigger's WP templates"

Beats doing landscaping, accounting, or any other mind-numbing job out there. How do I care? By being grateful for being able to do what I love and enjoy. Not everyone out there is that lucky...

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays.
