I set up a slack channel at work about AI a few days ago and the convos have been riveting so far, especially given the range of awareness and knowledge across the company. You've got people who have no idea what any of this is, then people who were like "omg I was just telling someone else we needed to start talking about this."
We're a content marketing agency and produce content for different brands in a variety of industries. I'm having some fun thinking of how little site search is used in most sites, and how a chat engine could become the main way of finding info on a site, producing a single results page that isn't links to different articles, but is a single piece of content giving you precisely what it thinks you need based on the search prompt. Very interesting to think about how much that would change the ways we measure engagement and would possible give us something far more qualitative (based on satisfaction, benefits, and emotional engagement) vs. quantitative (bounce rate, time on page, links clicked, etc.)

I have a feeling AI is going to softly disrupt humanity. Not by turning evil against us like Skynet, but a similar impact as smartphones have had on us, only x10 worse
Eroding borders between what's fake or real, overwhelming entertainment, everyone addicted to customized AI porn, functional illiteracy because AI does everything for you etc

- I think the ethics of it in terms of impact on employment in certain fields is going to be massive. We'll need some kind of arms agreement for it.mg33

- There's no AI invented yet, so no.
Calling things like chatGPT or midjourney "AI" is ignorant.grafician - What should we call themdrgs
- language models, diffusion models, generative transformers etc.
not to mention another big irony it's nothing open or AI about OpenAI
oh wellgrafician - also amazingly people do not call Siri or Alexa "AI" even though these virtual assistant/chat bots do a lot more than chatGPT
Naming new tech is hard indeedgrafician - agreed the Artificial Intelligence label for Latent Diffusion models is really overhyping/pedigree... the tool into something it's not.jonny_quest_lives
- Ofc I blame the confusion on the dumb media - but idk yet if it's blind ignorance or direct misinformation - maybe a bit of bothgrafician
- the way I see the advancement of these tools is stable diffusion will end up a Ps plugin and chatGPT will be included in Office generating filler text for .pptsgrafician

Die Google, die
https://www.engadget.com/google-…
"Google sees ChatGPT as a threat to its search business and has shifted plans accordingly over the last several weeks, according to The New York Times. The report claims CEO Sundar Pichai has declared a "code red" and accelerated AI development. Google is reportedly preparing to show off at least 20 AI-powered products and a chatbot for its search engine this year, with at least some set to debut at its I/O conference in May."

- Google isn't going anywhere. If you read up on it, their logic is solid. They want AI to be beneficial before just throwing it out there, like all the others.formed
- Imagine youtube of the future - you just ask it to show you a cute girl talking about pastries in paris, duration 40mins - and the AI generates a video of that.shapesalad

Wondered today: how long until AIs are scraping more from other AIs than from people who actually learned and practised writing or painting or whatnot. It's a sci-fi trope, the world where nobody knows how to do anything because society has become so reliant on automation.

That Joshua Davis interview on AI was painful to listen to.
This dude is a lot dumber than I thought. He sounded clueless, like listening to some random guy at the coffee shop or movie theater trying to warn strangers about this new tech. Real Boomer Grandpa energy.
Unfortunately, we're going to be fucking swamped with bad takes and bad opinions on AI for the remainder of 2023.

Greg Rutkowski's name appears so many times in prompts.
So much so he was saying the AI stuff now shows up ahead of his own work in Google searches.
-- ...Which is a failing of the search engine, if we were to use more advanced techniques such as AI to power the search, this would be less of a problem.kalkal

How important will having a website with good SEO be when chatGPT just gives us the answers?
What will be the new focus of capturing readers/users?
What does marketing look like after the death of a Google search engine model (organic search)?
Will it be ads while you use chatGPT?
This will likely make social networks even more important as a means to find consumers.
Will we start direct mail again?
- search has always been inconvenient. you dig and dig to maybe find what you need.
ChatGTP will eliminate (mis)information capitalism._niko - Did I miss something is chat gpt suddenly giving correct answers? I largely thought it was just confidentally incorrect most of the time?jonny_quest_lives
- It's funny everyone acting like major companies like Coca Cola weren't able to build a brand before the internet...jonny_quest_lives
- If brand strategy/advertising can be outsourced to AI its more a testament to how shitty your brand strategy is not how magical AI suddenly got.jonny_quest_lives
- I suppose I'm talking about what does the future of marketing look like with AI removing a large percentage of traffic from organic search. It's one thing toShenanigansTV
- talk about the past and what is known, but what can you imagine in the future? Big money will still dominate the other spaces but what about small to medium?ShenanigansTV
- well there will be a pivot to see what it can do for sure but honestly i am a bit jaded as "Brand Startegy/strategists have become soo saturated.jonny_quest_lives
- also i do suffer from old schoolism where Strategy= Advertising if an ad agency didn't have a strategy what was the point of the Brand using them?jonny_quest_lives
- the last 15 years has been the decentralization of ad agency function... brands wanted a separate agency of record, then a separate brand strategy agencyjonny_quest_lives

- I disagree with Weinstein, this could be the great equalizer. Sorry we were't all born into a rich and educated family, which gave us the luxury to also become_niko

- I disagree with his mechanic analogy. I don't give a fuck if my mechanic has a wall of degrees, I just want my water pump fixed. If he needs to look it up_niko
- so be it, I look shit up all the time in my practice. it's the knowledge of one man vs the collective knowledge of all mechanics in the world plus AI. I'll take_niko
- ...the latter. And if it weren't for YouTube I wouldn't have been able to fix my plumbing issue this weekend, so the more AI can help us the better._niko

Another great thing about chat GTP is that it will hopefully eliminate misinformation and biased opinions and content for the sake of clicks and making money.
Most people get their info from YouTube, Facebook and twitter unfortunately, and this will eliminate the cult of the celebrity. I want info, I don't give a fuck about you or your agenda or the bullshit products you're trying to shill.
smash that like button - fuck off.
- GPTs are biased from the start based on information input, there's no biased/un-biased switch somewhere
and tons of people correct these "AI"s all the timegrafician - < but what you describe would indeed be helpfulgrafician

I guess one of the dangers of getting hooked on chat gpt and its successors will be that one (or two) companies will control all the information and be able to censor it or control the narrative.
At least with the internet, you get everything. all the shit with the good but at least the shit is there.
