Last month one of our journalists received an interesting email. A researcher had come across mention of a Guardian article, written by the journalist on a specific subject from a few years before. But the piece was proving elusive on our website and in search. Had the headline perhaps been changed since it was launched? Had it been removed intentionally from the website because of a problem we’d identified? Or had we been forced to take it down by the subject of the piece through legal means? The reporter couldn’t remember writing the specific piece, but the headline certainly sounded like something they would have written. It was a subject they were identified with and had a record of covering. Worried that there may have been some mistake at our end, they asked colleagues to go back through our systems to track it down. Despite the detailed records we keep of all our content, and especially around deletions or legal issues, they could find no trace of its existence.

This is so good:
His argument for a pause on all this AI stuff. Sounds like a flippant statement - however his reasons for why are absolutely spot on.
- Agreed, I've listened to it twice. It's a great conversation, exciting and terrifying at the same time.Morning_star

Stuart Russell, Professor of Computer Science, UC Berkeley
About Talk:
It is reasonable to expect that artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities will eventually exceed those of humans across a range of real-world decision-making scenarios. Should this be a cause for concern, as Alan Turing and others have suggested? Will we lose control over our future? Or will AI complement and augment human intelligence in beneficial ways? It turns out that both views are correct, but they are talking about completely different forms of AI. To achieve the positive outcome, a fundamental reorientation of the field is required. Instead of building systems that optimize arbitrary objectives, we need to learn how to build systems that will, in fact, be beneficial for us. Russell will argue that this is possible as well as necessary. The new approach to AI opens up many avenues for research and brings into sharp focus several questions at the foundations of moral philosophy.

Today I uploaded an illustration and the AI worked out it was a landscape, with waves rolling onto the rocks.
I asked the AI to animate the waves rolling in and out from the rocks, in the same style as the original illustration in a weird conversation.
5 minutes later it spat out an animation.- what platform are you using for animation?where_am_i
- that was in Genmo, it has Chat GPT integrated into it now.PhanLo
- First go worked really well, now I'm going to have an argument with a robotPhanLo
- can u change speed.. convections flow.. size anything of the waves or is this just as it comes..neverscared
- still a long way to go before it replaces motion designers :shapesalad
- https://www.genmo.ai…shapesalad
- After some discussion, me and robot worked it out. For me to animate the waves it wopuld have taken a full day of frame by frame animation.PhanLo
- It isn't perfect, but I just need it to loop and displace the original image.
I don't think it needs to replace us. Just help out.PhanLo - The marketing folk I work for are never going to learn this stuff.PhanLo
- I'll still have to comp it in, mask it and re-render it.PhanLo
- wow, didn't know this was possiblekingsteven
- Yeah I just happened across it last night. Also just tried prompt to 3d model textures. Textured a whole building model in one go. Head explodes gifPhanLo
- thanks will check it outwhere_am_i
- so i takes less time but u have less to no control of the depth, speed. flow of the waves..neverscared
- higher pay per hour... less creative potential and control.... could be ok..neverscared
- what's cool about Genome and the chat get integration is that you can speak to it in human terms and it does the prompt-boy prompts for you._niko
