Thats a good question, I thought about this quite a bit. Main reason being that its not really about Toronto at all, it just provides the setting. Toronto happens to be the perfect place for a doc like this.

Another reason is that I want to create a certain suspension of disbelief so that the audience feels as though they are being shown some exotic locale they've never seen or heard about before. Like a lot of those travel documentaries that take you somewhere new and interesting.

I figured if I made it obviously Toronto Ontario Canada it would put off a lot of the potential audience. I also want people who are familiar with the place to be able to see a side they haven't seen or thought of before in this way.

    • interesting, although you may consider a quick mention just to set the scene. it seemed weird that you were trying to keep it a secretJG_LB

    • I'm definitely not trying to keep it a secret the location is meant to be revealed subtly.lodef
    • tough to talk about it without the doc being released yet. There's a lot of details about Toronto and Canadalodef

Its a little more obvious in this demo trailer I made but I decided to go another direction, some of that stuff has been cut...

and this is the rough concept for the main graphic which is obviously Toronto with the CN Tower. I've been trying to work on a way to take the focus off the skyline...

yeah exactly that was a part of the point. Downtown Canada is supposed to be a big grey boring grid but I wanted to show another side of it a lot of people don't realize is there.

So as I was saying its later than I would have hoped, I probably would have punched myself if I knew I wouldn't have finished until now but its not that big a deal. Its always been apart of the plan to do most of promotion after the World Cup this year anyway. Its something I will be promoting with practically everything I do as a filmmaker and a musician for a while yet. It really is about more than the World Cup anyway.

This is the first project of this scale I've ever completed so its been a very formative learning experience. Everything from the shooting to the editing, the music production and the little bit of marketing I've attempted was all about the learning curve. I have a lot more stuff in the works so the experience will all be applied.

Its actually still not finished, there are some rough parts where the editing and music still need some work. Vimeo has a fancy 'replace video' feature so I will be making some changes and making the music, audio mix and editing better. If you are reading this please watch it and let me know what you think. I trust your opinions here, it would be appreciated.

I'd love some WP theme recommends. I've tried theme forest and some other sites but there is too much out there, you guys know the good stuff.

It was all shot during the 2010 World Cup with some pick up footage in the summer of 2011/12. There is a little bit about that specific World Cup in South Africa, it was a pretty great tournement that year, but its mostly about the World Cup in general.

Also it is about more than just the FIFA World Cup™ anyway and covers a variety of topics like diversity and social and poltical issues, so I am hoping people will be able to see its relevance with a little bit of perspective outside the event itself.

very cool, funny how soccer mad our city is when it comes to the world cup, yet we never qualify.

^totally. I heard a lot about what it was like there during the WC from friends which is partly how I came up with the idea. There is a street party somewhere in the city everyday for a month. The diversity helps obviously but I think Toronto is just an awesome and enthusiastic sports town anyway.

    • you know people in TO who would like this please share it.lodef
