Putin warns of dire consequences the world has never seen before (I‘m sure he‘s implying nukes) should anybody (NATO) try to meddle in their operations.

The top senator overseeing U.S. intelligence agencies tells Axios he's deeply concerned cyberattacks launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin could morph into a broader war that draws in NATO nations — including the United States.
- yuekit0
Anyone who thinks NATO expansionism is the direct cause of this war needs to explain why Putin launched a full-on invasion so quickly. Even if you buy that as the main cause of the larger tensions it doesn't explain such an extreme, high-risk escalation. Is there any imminent threat anyone can point to that would justify bombing cities with millions of people?
At least some journalists within Russia seem to be confused by this latest move and are wondering if Putin simply lost his mind.
- supposedly he's not bombing the cities, but strictly targeting military bases and government control centersKrassy
- Well that makes sense, it's same thing USA did at the start of the Iraq War "shock and awe"yuekit
- Russia sent 'peace keepers' to Luhansk and Donetsk. Ukraine then announced a state of emergency, and started calling up troops, perhaps readying for offensive.monNom
- Russia had be claiming that the ethnic Russians in Western Ukraine were experiencing a genocide at the hands of Ukraine govtmonNom
- This is just the first session, what allows easier entrance for ground forces.sted
- Of course everyone tells themselves they are the good guys. These are what I gather are Russia's talking points. Not supporting them.monNom
- Won't be long before "the situation on the ground requires" that russia launch a ground invasion to "suppress the ongoing threat"monNom
- All of that was how they justified it monNom but I'm wondering what the actual rationale is.yuekit
- I can't figure that out either. We seem to be missing some important info.monNom
