GoPro Hero 4 Black- What's the distortion like on the 24mm?SteveJobs
- Not terrible. I always use LR's distortion adjust to fix. Main annoyance is the depth of field at low f-stop.mg33
- That's understandable for a full frame at that wide of an angle. It definitely got me using a tripod more for higher f stop shots if the light was bad.mg33
- light was bad.mg33
- ah, so you got the D610! you're a wide angle guy it seems too!

- The 35mm f2 is cheaper than the 1.4 & very good (when focused at anything closer than infinity) and much lighter.nb
- I'd love the 35mm 1.4, but I'd prefer to own the 35mm f2 plus afford another lens!nb
- I know but the 1.4 is bokehlicious! :pSteveJobs
- Did you buy new or used? I got my D610 refurb from B&H and was really happy to get it at a lower cost.mg33
- Ebay. It had just been serviced by Nikon with a new sensor so it was a good deal for me.SteveJobs
- mg33 do you have a link for something like what you got from bh?

Steve Jobs - have you experienced any sensor dust, oil spots issues with the D600? As you know the D610 aimed to fix that oil spot problem. Mine had some spots from the get-go even as a refurb, so I got a cleaning kit and learned how to use it. I rarely if ever had oil spots with my D90, so it was a little annoying with the new camera. However... anyone expecting a camera to remain clean and spotless and not require some kind of cleaning if it's been exposed to the elements is a bit naive.Dust and oil spots in moderation are also incredibly easy to fix in LR or PS.
- Yeah, when I bought it it had just been serviced by Nikon and the sensor was replaced. It's like new now :)SteveJobs

@Mg33
D800 E has a lot of oil spots, have to manually clean my sensor every time. 5D less. There its just dirt from changing lenses.

I just pay shops to clean the camera for me.

Ha anyone used a silencer housing before?

@ bklyndroobeki
5DMK3 possibly.
I wouldn't mind MK2 but i've heard the Low light focusing problem on MK2 has been fixed on MK3. Plus not sure if it's easy to find a relatively new MK2 in good condition.

So I just had a baby boy. My first, and he's 1 month old today. I've been shooting a lot of photos of him like any proud Dad, but my photo gear isn't all that great by QBN'r standards.
I recently bought a Panasonic LUMIX LX7 which I thought I'd be using a lot, but I'm just not loving the actual act of shooting with it all that much.
So instead I'm back to using my Canon Rebel XT DSLR from about 2005. I think it's maybe 8 megapixels max. No image stabilization. I shoot that with the cheap canon 50mm f/1.8 lens for portraits around the house.
Here's the thing though... to my unsophisticated eyes this thing still produces damn good photos! Sure, you can scrutinize the noise at higher ISOs and the overall sharpness, but IMO that's sweating the small stuff. This thing produces usable, quality images at a reasonable size even in low-light situations.
Part of me wants a better DSLR body and a lens with IS, but a bigger part of me wants to use the money on something else.
- And yes, I'll get around that that "Proud Dads" thread eventually.nocomply
- your baby look terrified.... O__O
what you said to him?pango - cute little guy!HijoDMaite
- Every cheap Canon or Nikon dSLR is capable of excellent photos if you have a good lens (the 50 1.8 is great).nb
- ... and assuming you know a bit about photography. I always suggest people to buy cheap bodies and spend the money on lenses.nb
- ...lenses.nb
- Congrats nocomply! Our new daughter is a month old today.mg33
- I shot my twins with the same Rebel XT with a 50mm 1.8 prime till last year. Manual settings + prime lens FTW.evilpeacock
- "where am i?" lol, congrats!cruddlebub
- any DSLR with a 50mm 1.8 can do wonders, in the right hands... it's not so much about gear!vaxorcist

wow, I have a similar lineup to nb.
i just bought a d800 and have a d700 too.
50mm 1.4g and a 50 1.4d that's beat to shit
85 1.4d (it's focusing weird on the d800, i may return it and get another or that sigma 1.4 lens)
70-200 2.8 vri
17-35 2.8
24-120 4 that's also beat to shit.- when i got that d700 used from keh it had about 40-50 specs of dust on the sensor. always check. possibly ruined some shoots.jaylarson
- did you ever have problems printing large with the d700HijoDMaite
- i've printed up to 13x19 with no problem. haven't gone bigger.jaylarson

@Hijo
I have 24"x36" prints from 35mm film, the D700 and D800, all shot with the same lens. The D800 are the sharpest, of course.
The film prints (same digital printing method, but from scanned film) are the grainiest, and the least detail even though they were scanned at higher resolution than even the D800. The film prints look super cool, even though the detail isn't there.
The D700 prints sit somewhere between 35mm film and the D800, closer to the D800 quality than the film. And you know, I really do like how they look. Obviously, the D800 prints have more detail, but there's something about those D700 prints that I like. They're lower detail, but they look good.
- nb0
^ My first thought after looking at all these prints was, "I should've maybe kept my D700, too." But then I realized that what I really should be doing is printing my D800 photos at 60"x90" or larger. ;)
Anyone know of a print provider shipping to Canada or USA that does this for relatively cheap?
- very pro shop close to my house check it out http://www.northcoas…HijoDMaite
- Doesn't look like they do anything bigger than 24x36nb
- call them, they have to they have some big ass machines in that building. they do a lot of work for the east coastHijoDMaite

- HijoDMaite0
Yea I am going to pick up a d700 as a second body I think because my bro-in-law has a ton of lenses to lend me.
Since it is only 12mp I was afraid I would run in to problems if I ever wanted to print. Especially since I see my print shop has requirements such as, (20"x24" print must be at 6000x72000) well the d700 cant even make photos that big not even at 220dpi so WTH?
After talking to the owner of the shop she said with landscapes can be printed at way lower resolution and still come out OK. But she did not recommend it for portraits. so I guess there is a trade off. :-(
And if I crop then I'm really screwed...
- D700 is a gem, I have a D610, but know people who are keeping their D700's forevervaxorcist
- vaxorcist0
large size print quality also depends on the kind of light... side / back light with gridded softboxes and such can provide richer skin textures that enlarge nicely, whereas flat lighting of people may not enlarge so nicely if you're scaling up a lower res photo.
