i like cyberpunk, giant robots, sci-fi, noir, decent fantasy, good writing or anything trippy in any genre. i like neon genesis evangelion, ghost in the shell, robotech, gundam, blood, perfect blue, etc.
i don't like stories involving dorky high school students, i don't care about preteens finding love or discovering their sexuality.
i've already know about and own every miyazaki film.
what's good that i should check out? i feel like there's probably a lot of stuff i don't know about.

for me Furi Kuri is the best animated thing ever, even some mentors at animationmentor used some clips of it to teach animation.
its kinda high-school-ish thing, but is very trippy and funny...and use a lot of animation techniques, its only 6 episodes long, and its kind of a parody to Evangelion.
I also love One Piece, but its an endless number of episodes, I like the first 100's tho...
- these sound interestingscarabin
- second for FLCL (furi kuri). tries to encompass all of anime in one 6 episode series. experimental, funny, smart.sarahfailin

AKIRA... Hands down.
Yes, it's obvious choice... but its my Blade Runner of animation. It totally blew my mind and changed so many things for me, i was never the same after that first viewing. GITS was a close second.
...Oh watch Space Dandy... Shit is awesome!
- ha, space dandy looks greatscarabin
- Gotta read the akira books. I got all six. So much iller than than the movie.gilgamush
- I got the books right after and yes it's better but it's 6 books versus 1 movie... and i think it did a great job.necromation

I love that there's so much scifi anime, but I can't stand gaspy teenager drama.

A few recommendations from when I used to watch anime:
Patlabor movies are good. Good dialog, not too silly
You mentioned GITS but didn't say if it was just the movie so here's the series which is also good:
Finally there's also Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
It reminded me a lot of Evanglion even through I think it might have been a little more light hearted in the beginning but then started getting pretty dark a little ways in.
