Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, still recuperating from a surgical procedure on her left lung, was absent from the bench Monday as the Supreme Court heard its first cases of 2019.
Justice Ginsburg, 85 years old, will participate in the cases based on the transcripts of the oral arguments, Chief Justice John Roberts said at the opening of court proceedings.
A court spokeswoman said Justice Ginsburg was working from home as she recovers.
